TLDR:  Back in 1940 a law was passed requiring all aliens to register with the government.  This has been diluted, and not enforced stringently, over the years.  Most LEGAL aliens are registered via applying for a Visa, etc....but most illegals are not.  Trump signed an Executive Order to require registration of all Aliens, including illegals.  Of course, it was challenged in court, but Trump won and the rule went in to effect on 4/11.   Also, anyone registered has to carry proof of registration.  It is a CRIME to NOT register.  So, any illegals that don't will have committed yet ANOTHER crime against our country if they don't register.  I believe they have 30 days.

WINNING!!!

I don't understand the point of this. They are already here illegally. Why would they out themselves? Or is this just another mechanism to help thwart liberal plans to keep illegals here?

If they don't register they commit another crime.  There goes the lib party line that crossing the border is a minimal crime, as @The Real timschochet would have you believe, and we should forgive them of that crime and give them all sorts of free stuff.  And there goes any chance of them staying here legally if they choose not to register.  They're basically between a rock and a hard place - go home and try to come here legally, or live in the shadows and if they ever get deported they're focked.  It's a great strategy by Trump.

I guess I look at it like they already committed a crime and shouldn't be here, so adding another crime is unnecessary. Democrats somehow are able to get past that law, so it seems like some nice ammo to toss another crime onto them.

It’s pretty meaningless, guy. It’s not going to result in removing most of them (I keep telling you there will be more undocumented people here in 4 years than there are now) and it will just be rescinded by the next President, whoever that is (it will be a Democrat.)

Eventually we’re going to have to grant most of these folks amnesty and some kind of legal recognition. It’s the only workable solution.
