Why do a lot of people consider C.C. DeVille a bad guitarist?

Recommended Posts

Been getting a lot of Poison on Hair Nation and it popped into my head that a lot of people think DeVille is a bad guitarist…

I don’t play guitar, so he sounds good to me…. Why does he have such a bad reputation for this?

Because he plays elementary cords that even intermediate players can play.

Pretty much this. Compared to his peers, he is a low talent guitarist.
That being said, I live their music quite a bit and CC never compared himself to any of the other guitar gods at the time.

Thanks…. I have always wondered if Bret wrote the music so CC can play simply or that is what CC wrote to play instead of expanding…

I mean whatever they did obviously worked, so there is that…

He's made some great riffs for sure but I wouldn't say he's anything special as far as Technical ability

After re-reading your initial post I don't think he has a "bad reputation" with his peers, but with snobby guitar elitists that never made it big.

Like MO said, he did have some great riffs, but imo Poison was more of a party band.  Part of why I like them so much. They don't take themselves too seriously.

Also, music is subjective, obviously. :)

When Rusty participated in air guitar contests he would often use “ Talk Dirty To Me”.
