Grizzly 0 Posted August 13, 2010 The steelers o'line (talking run only) has not been that good the last few years and I'm having a hard time believeing in him especially with Big Ben out the first four games. Teams will stack the line in those four games. The problem is there are not many others that I trust either, although I would rather have Deangelo over Jackson or Mendenhall but Deangelo shares caries, the others won't. I have him as the 7th RB (CJ, AP, MJD, RR, Gore, Turner, Jackson, Mendenhall, Deangelo).
cavern 70 Posted August 13, 2010 i'm very likely taking him with my first or second pick - i pick at the end of the first. i understand the negatives about the line, etc. however, he really has noone to compete for carries, has looked like the stud rb the steelers have lacked (at times), and plays for a team that consistently contends - the chances of the steelers being a losing team are historically low. IGotWorms 4,058 Posted August 14, 2010 Barring injury, you know that he will at least perform well. He is going to get enough touches that even a poor o-line and bad QB play wouldn't stop him from getting enough stats. If the o-line performs well and the QB play isn't horrible, then he could have a huge year. So bottom line, I'm high on Mendenhall because his floor is very high. Matt Mueller 146 Posted August 14, 2010 Maybe I'm a fool but I think I'd rather have Benson. Or possibly reach for Greene or Charles. I don't like his playoff schedule either.
davidbostonisgood 2 Posted August 14, 2010 Ok, here's why you take the guy. He's probably going to get about 390 carries this year and another 40 catches. That's 430 total touches. They have no other runners on the roster (now minus SWP and Dwyer doesn't have it). The Steelers as a team are looking at about 530 carries this year, 390 of which should go to Mendenhall. At a measily 4.0 ypc that equates to 1,560 yards. With that many carries he should be good for about 11 TDs as well, getting the bulk of the goaline carries (and that number may be a little low). His 40 catches will come primarily due to Heath Miller having to stay in and block again this year due to their poor pass protecting o-line (though they did upgrade run blocking with their first round pick). The fact that Heath will have to stay in, they lost Santonio Holmes, and they figure to have to pass an adequate amount this year due to game situations, 40 catches will not be hard to come by. With those receptions he should be a able to net another 240 yards no problem and at least 1 more TD. So Grizzly thats 390 carries 1,560 yards 40 catches 240 yards and 12 total touchdowns. How does that look to you? And that's his floor if he stays away from injury. That being said, his legs will probably go into a coma if the Steelers make a deep run into the NFL playoffs. But you won't have to worry about that.
