trade away Megatron for A. Gates?

Recommended Posts

I'm weak at TE (technically don't have 1 right now) and by this Sunday I'll have somebody like D. Keller, T. Moeki, J. Gresham, T. Heap, or H. Miller. My 12-team standard-scoring league requires we start 3 WRs and 1 TE. My WR corps is Fitzgerald, C. Johnson, M. Floyd, J. Knox, D. Bowe. Guesstimating from a math standpoint, the weekly point drop-off of losing someone like CJ compared to my other WRs seems to be about 3 points per week based on past years' stats and this year's projections. Gaining an elite TE like Gates (who is basically just a big WR) over starting a weak TE every week seems like it may gain me slightly more than 3 points per week. So do I take the trade, and why? Leave a link and I'll answer yours.

A fairly even trade that doesnt kill your WR corps (since Knox is startable on a weekly basis) and most certainly upgrades the TE position. I would probably do it based on the facts presented.

Thanks for answering mine.

I would do it. You get a top tier TE out of it and are giving up what is now a dime a dozen type of WR. CJ isn't what he was in '08. Assuming you have unlimited transactions - you could keep rolling into other WRs if need be on a weekly basis based on who has a good matchup......and you'll have a solid TE.

I dunno...I really like Dustin Keller and if you hadn't noticed, he and Gates have the same number of targets so far this year. I really would consider grabbing Keller and trying him out before getting rid of CJ. Keller is tied for 7th in ypc so you know he's not just for dump-offs and, in my league, is the #6 TE so far in fantasy points. Something to think about.

Thanks for mine.

Wow man, I can see your dilemma. I own both of the guys and I've been pretty disappointed in CJ. Think about this though....the first game the guy gets a TD taken away on a technicality and he breaks like an 80 yard TD last week that gets called back due to holding. Keep in mind that Philly did everything but stick the whole team on the guy the whole game and the fact that Shaun Hill is his QB and, well....I love Gates...I'll like him even more when VJax comes back. This is a tough one.

Because you have to start 3 WR every week, I would keep him and get a guy like Keller who is going to really have things opened up for him when Homes returns from suspension. Best of luck man!

You could take a flyer on Keller and keep CJ. However, I would be inclined to make the trade. With VJax gone, Gats is again putting up WR numbers and will outscore CJ over the course of the season.

See that's the thing, I don't believe Megatron is now a dime a dozen fantasy WR, and that's probably why I have him in all 3 of my leagues. He's had a rag-tag group of some of the leagues worst QBs throwing him the ball behind one of the leagues worst offensive lines w/ no other offensive weapons (until J. Best now) for the last few years and he's still put up really good numbers; he's an elite talent in the conversation with Andre Johnson. He's gotten unlucky not to score more FF points the last 2 weeks and teams will now have to focus attention on Best, opening things up more for Megatron. I think he will score more FF points on the season than Gates but that's not always what a trade is about. It seems that Gates will add more to my team, but I'm really in a pickle. And btw, Aaron Hernandez is not available.

Starts: 3 WRs and 1 TE.

So your choices go something like this:

A) WR: Fitzgerald, C. Johnson, M. Floyd TE: Keller

OR (if trade)

B)WR: Fitzgerald, M. Floyd, J. Knox TE: Gates

Frankly, I don't like the deal. Given Fitz's situation in AZ (the entire situation in AZ), I'd support the trade if you were giving Fitz and not CJ. Both Gates and Megatron have the potential to be monsters in any week. You don't have much to worry about with S.Hill vs. M.Stafford. Best probably helps you but frankly, CJ is so good, I don't think the long-term health of Best matters that much.

You leave yourself potentially weak at WR in this deal. Do you really trust Fitz week-in-week out with the QB situation in AZ. Is the jury still out on Floyd, Knox and Bowe? (<---I think so).

Pick up Keller, Heap, and/or A. Hernandez (NE). Patience. Make a trade later. This is only W3.

Don't trade. You are better off with picking up a TE on waivers. WRs aren't very deep and you will struggle down the line filling those 3 spots if you make the trade
