  1. ronnie brown is a stud.

I'd say hes good enough to start regardless of matchup.

Gore is a high risk move. I agree he is capable of putting up more fantasy points than Ronnie brown because of the team he plays, but Ronnie Brown is 12 -15 fantasy points in the bank against any team. (standard scoring)

and gore is unproven. I'd wait until I see him play for one or two weeks before I put him in the lineup unless I'm really in dire need of a fill-in. Then at least you have an idea of what he can do.

Right now, Exhibition play doesnt tell you enough in my opinion.

  2. I would also do the trade.

you are giving up a young guy who may or may not prove to be an actual #1. Agreed he has potential.

you are also giving up a has been who also has potential, but his age and the fact hes not the starter do work against him.

the third guy you give up (wilford) is not a top end WR and shouldnt even be one of your starters.

I'd guess you can get a guy of his quality off of waivers.

you are picking up a top end talent and if this is a keeper draft, I'd say take it and run. Even if it's not a keeper draft, I dont think you are risking a whole lot here. The upside is still outstanding.

  3. okay, I have an interesting question and figure I could use an opinion.

    we start 2 RB's.

    Standard fantasy scoring.

my first RB is Tomlinson who is a must start every week.

    my other RBs:

    Julius Jones Vs Jacksonville (ouch)

    Reggie Bush Vs Cleveland

    Kevin Barlow Vs Tennessee.

Julius Jones is my #2, but against such a physical defense, I'm not sure he'll have a great game against them, so I thought it may be worth my while to look into playing the matchup instead.

Reggie Bush plays what was a very weak team against the run last season in Cleveland.

I know Cleveland acquired Ted Washington to help the run, and I think he will do the job, but, I feel this will only close up the inside running game. I would expect bush to use his speed to run wide on them or take dump off passes to burn them in the secondary.

I know hes a rookie and this is a bit of a risk, but I'm considering this option based on who they are playing.

Barlow also remains an option against another weak defense in Tennessee, but I think he is by far an inferior talent to bush and Jones.

so if you have good advice, I'd like to hear it.

    So what's the verdict playmaker?

  4. I agree. you wont get much for brown.

now that he is a #2, I'd say his value is almost nil. I agree hes good, but I cant see him being good enough to put up the kind of numbers you need from the #2 slot.

take a chance. I'm willing to bet noone picks up brown on waivers anyhow, so if you want him back you'll be able to get him back at anytime.

  5. YES!!!

always start your studs....no matter what the matchup is.

    :wall:

    I agree with this guy.

any player who is considered top 3 or 4 at his position should always start unless there is an injury to consider.

I'd only start based on the matchup if we're talking about 2nd tier players.

the only time I ever made an exception was when I once started LT & Priest Holmes over Marshall Faulk. However at that time, those 3 were all considered to be pretty close to equal in talent and Marshall's knee wasnt 100% and he was playing a tough Defense.

but that is the exception and not the rule.

So unless Carson Palmer is starting against a really weak pass defense, I'd stick with manning.

that is... assuming you have Carson as a #2

  6. I'd go with Owens and Driver

    and portis and brown.

Although I'd keep an eye on the pitt situation up until your deadline to set the roster. if Pitt decides to start Rothlisberger, I'd make a last minute change to ward if possible.

  7. If TO is getting the start, you start him.

not only is he a speed demon when fully healthy..... but he runs very good routes and his size makes him an excellent possession receiver.

even if hes lost a step due to the injury, he will do just fine.

his ego will see to that.

  8. hines Ward is the man.

Also, he is an excellent route runner. Inexperienced QB's tend to do better with this kind of receiver.

it's guys who have tons of speed who tend to have trouble with a change of QB because timing becomes that much more important. Unfortunately, these things will take time.

I expect Pitt will run the ball a lot.... and Ward will be the primary receiver on almost every pass play.

  9. Isaac Bruce has been money in the bank his whole career.

he got hurt last year, and it was mostly a wasted season. That being said...I think he has one more good year left in him before his numbers really start to decline. He'd be the one I would take.

but if you like to take a chance, Curtis is a very good talent who will perform well enough to be a #3 WR but only if Bruce or Holt gets hurt.

if Curtis takes over the #2 WR job, hes good for 900+ yards and 7-9 TD's. otherwise, hes probably good for 750 yards and 4-6 TD's.

I'm not a big fan of Lee Evans. (mostly due to who is throwing him the ball) If I had to dump one of those guys, hed be the one.

  10. I start:

    1-QB

    2-RB

    2-WR

    1-TE

    1-D/st

    1-K

**Another thing, is that Jax and GB have the same bye week....and on that bye week San Diego plays San Fran, something to think about.

Well, with that being the case, I think you know what your best move is.

you gotta cover the bye week sooner or later. and if this kid blows the doors off, you may find one of your other QB's is expendable to improve another area of your roster.

  11. well, if I had both Addai and Rhodes on my roster, I'd start Rhodes in week 1. I dont think Addai will put up any kind of decent numbers until mid season.

but if fred taylor is an option for week 1 start him and dont sweat it.

Taylor is a top end starter when hes healthy. and I'd like to think that he's at least got a few games in him at the start of the season.

Hes the one you want. Start him until he gets hurt(likely game 5 or 6), Hopefully by that time your decision on who to start between addai and rhodes will have settled itself.

  12. well, I think the most rational thing is to go with JJ, but this is supposed to be fun and if Bush has a breakout first game well it would be a shame to have him on the bench. Also, I had JJ last year and it was pretty frustrating while Bill would constantly insert MB3 whenever JJ would just start to get going (1 out of every 3 series and at the goalline).

    http://www.fftodayforums.com/forum/index.p...howtopic=228759

Yeah, and I dont think this will change much. Its definitely a concern, there is no doubt of that.

  13. phil rivers is in a good system in San Diego.

I think if he breaks out, you'll find he will have more value than any of those WR's. And with Farve being as old as he is.... I dont think this is a bad option for you.

if you decide you need a WR bad enough, clayton is the one Id go for. I feel it's easier to replace a WR than a QB for the most part.

  14. dude, I dont think this is a situation you want to worry about.

neither henry or Brown will get a LOT of carries. Lendale white will work his way into the mix, and as a result, all 3 backs will not be worth keeping on your roster.

if you have either of these guys, I'd consider dumping him if you have another player you can pickup.

  15. Rhodes is decent, but at this point in the draft I'd have taken the bigger name.

it was announced that Ahman Green is the starter. I'd give him a shot before Rhodes.

he is actually available on waivers in my draft. If I didnt already have a ton of depth at RB I would pick him up. but he is not a guy that people pick until late in the draft (like last 3 or 4 rounds)

    either way, that's my opinion.

also tommy jones may not be a bad late round pickup. even if he loses his job in chicago, he will get traded eventually and then he will light it up.

  16. do you know what?

I think it's too early to make a trade for this team. If reggie bush and Addai both end up starting and having a good year, your depth just got a million times better.

I also think that Mark Clayton has a good chance to rebound and have a year similar to his rookie year, and if Matt Jones has a big year, you may find your team is better than you thought.

now I wouldnt count on all of this, but I do think that either Jones or Clayton will be good. but probably not both. I also think that bush will be a decent starter most nights but would not start him against top calibre run stuffing defensed. and Addai may turn out okay, but I wouldnt plan on it until the second half of the season.

either way, one guy mentioned earlier that to get a top end guy, you gotta trade Fitz and I think hes right. and this hurts you (in my opinion)

I'd hang tight and wait until week 3. if any of your rookies blow the doors off to start the season, you can guarantee that some sucker will come in and offer you a lot more for that rookie than he is worth. And that would be the time to sell and improve your depth.

once you have a good idea of what your team can do, then you can look to improve by picking up free agents etc. or making trades.

  17. Guy who picked before me is offering me peyton for ronnie brown..(i receive peyton)

6 pts for all TDs. Look at my team and let me know.

    Starters

    QB Kurt Warner

    RB Ronnie Brown

    RB Cadillac Williams

    WR Santana Moss

    WR Andre Johnson

    Flex Jamal Lewis

    Flex Travis Henry

    Flex Jason Witten

    K Mike Vanderjagt

    Def Atlanta

    TE Todd Heap

    Bench

    QB Drew Bledsoe

    RB Wali Lundy

    RB Joseph Addai

    RB Chris Brown

    RB Michael Bennett

    WR Donte Stallworth

    WR Amani Toomer

    WR Cedrick Wilson

    WR Brandon Stokley

Should I do this? We can start many rb's in this league due to flex.

    Please leave link

if you get 6 points for all TD's it's awfully tempting to make this deal cuz of the amount of TD passes manning will get.

    However,

I dont like your depth at RB to make that deal. There are big question marks behind the names of every backup you have there, and it's actually possible that all 4 out of 4 of those wont be a starter for most of the season. While I agree a lot of them have potential and could be a full year starter, I wouldnt count on it.

I would counter with something like this:

Ronnie Brown and Kurt Warner (or Drew Bledsoe)

    For

Peyton manning and a starting Calibre RB. (assuming he has one)

Unfortunately I dont know what other players he has on his team, so I cant help you much more. But I think a deal like this would make more sense for your team.

  18. normally this would be a no brainer, but Jones is playing against the Jags (tough defense) While bush gets to play against cleveland (weak defense)

Jones would normally be the starter, but I'm thinking this may be one of those cases where I play the matchup.

can I get some opinions on this?

  19. Discussing the issue of the picks involved, ok NE is just doing the safe thing asking for a No1 pick or several No1 picks. They know by being the "seller", the buyer will eventually talk the price down some. If NE started off asking for a 2nd, they'd get offered a 3rd.

I think NE knows Branch is not worth a first, he's not worth two firsts, he's probably not worth a second, but asking for two firsts is the one way to safely guarantee getting at least a second if they have to trade him. I mean at some level, this is standard flea market haggling here.

As for the value of the picks, in today's NFL, draft picks are gold. If the player pans out, you are getting him in his lowest earning years that are likely to be his most productive years (NFL guys average what? 4 year careers?) This is a Moneyball tactic used by Billy Beane and the A's. The Patriots were competitive for so many years recently because Brady was paid on the cheap for those first few years of their strong run. Sure he got his cash eventually, but they got great value out of him to start.

A 2nd round pick in next years draft, arguably would be worth as much as a No 1 pick ten years ago. Picks are worth more now, not worth less than before. The league isn't choked by a 49er or Cowboys dynasty anymore, there's parity, or balanced mediocrity, whatever you want to call it. Draft picks are asked to step in much faster and produce more quickly than ever before. And the NFL 6th and 7th rounds in the draft are like the NBA's 2nd round in the draft. Lots of reaches but odds are the guys won't do much and will probably be cut in a year's time or will be role players. So the NFL draft is really a 4 to 5 round draft now, where thats about as far as you can go and still stand a decent chance at a productive full time player. Sure some 6th and 7th rounders or low round pick or a street FA will surprise, but the odds of you getting a Jesse Sapolu or a John Randle is pretty low.

Should NE trade Branch? I don't know. Too many variables in play. But would a 2nd be a good value for NE for Branch? Yes. No doubt in my mind. Asking for a first in a trade is really expecting a 2nd in any trade. And Branch isn't worth more than a 3rd realistically. Even if it doesn't look it, NE is playing this one correctly.

Well, I agree branch is probably worth more than a 2nd.

As seattles first round pick is so late in the first that it might as well be a second round pick I feel that it is conceivable that this may be where Branch's value lies. a High second or late first round pick.

I have no doubt that NE should trade branch. if they managed to sign him now, I think that too many bridges have been burned and his presence would only disrupt the team now.

I'm sorry, but this one is over. Branch will never be a pat again, and you guys who like him and are big NE fans had better get used to it.

The Pats have always had a team first philosophy and this time, I think they decided to make an example out of branch. I do feel the offer they made was fair given his history, and receiving numbers. I also feel branch could put up better numbers on a team that doesnt do the 'receiver by committee' . Since Branch has shown he is a greedy player.... maybe this move is best for all concerned.

after all, you are expected to honour your contract, so if you're gonna be locked up for 5 years + you had better be happy with your deal. As Branch is not happy with this, I dont see a resolution coming anytime soon cuz I dont think the pats will improve on the current offer in any significant way. (nor should they)

if branch really wanted to be a pat, he'd sign a one year deal, and play his best to prove the last season wasnt a fluke. Then he can come back and ask for more money next year.

A real team player would do this.

But I dont see him making this kind of offer. He seems to want it all NOW.

As such, I cant support him in this. I hope he sits all year long.

  20. okay, I have an interesting question and figure I could use an opinion.

  21. well, here is an interesting point of view:

any team making an offer to branch, can offer whatever they wish for salary. The dilemma for branch is... if they agree to a contract, that contract essentially puts a value on the player.

so if a team offers branch the money he is seeking, that means branch is more valueable and as such, the patriots should get more for letting him go.

so the more money teams are willing to pay him, the more they pay to get him outta New England.

I think its a good ploy by NE management. If branch gets big money, NE gets a better draft pick or more draft picks/players.

if noone offers branch big money, then he realizes that NE made a fair offer.

    either way they win.
