Galt, I'm not math wiz -- not even by the length of a football field -- but if I were to try power rankings for the league I commish, how would I do that?

I'm not looking at weekly; perhaps next year. But I do keep yearly standings -- from 2001, 2002 and 2003 (only the regular season).

Would it be possible to have yearly power rankings, instead of weekly? If so, how would I go about calculating this without making my head explode.

Any help would be much appreciated.

TIA.

Must resist the temptation to jump on the math wizardry comment.

I can send you a spreadsheet I use for doing this. The best thing would be for you to give me an AIM id or something so that when we're both free on a weekend day or something we can chat about how to use it and the why's of how I built it. I didn't build the spreadsheet to be user-frinedly, since I'm as good as it gets and building/manipulating spreadsheets.

Basically, three rankings are determined:

1) record

2) points scored

3) breakdown record

The breakdown record is the tricky one. It's the record you'd have if you played every team every week. For us, that's 11 games per week * 14 weeks = 154 games. The breakdown record has to be determined for every week. Easily done from week one forward, not so easy to do now since you'd have to look backwards across all 14 weeks played.

The spreadsheet would make it kinda easy to manage from the start of next season. You'd just need some instruction on what to do and the order in which to do it.

I only have Yahoo messenger. I may be able to wrestle my roomie's account from her for a night, tho (AIM).

So, realistically, a yearly power rankings would be hard to do, at least now. The only stats I've kept are win-loss record (regular, post-season, combined, and then used those to calculate win %).

So this would be something for me to look forward to doing for next year, if I'm reading correctly. I could do it for 2003, since we still have the points and week-by-week breakdown (league uses yahoo), but the past two years would have to be thrown out.

Cool.

I'm available after 9:30 tomorrow night, most of Friday, Saturday and early Sunday. It'd prolly be best to set up a time.

Tell me when it works best for you and I'll try and get on. Also, I'd like to do it for this year's, but Yahoo keeps the site up through the end of January (I believe through the Super Bowl), so no pressure in doing this soon.

Anyways, thanks for your help, and post when it would work best for you (since I know have time vacated by my Requiem time alloted). frown

Dalem - I'll try to remember to email it before the weekend. My being on PST makes evenings hard to predict (like when I actually leave work - where I am still) and I only have AIM at home.

My AIM id is whoisjfrgalt. I'll be online some decent portion of Sat and Sun, but predicting when exactly isn't so easy.
