56 0 Posted March 13, 2006 link Lewis Still A RavenMarch 13, 2006 The Baltimore Ravens announced today that they have agreed in principle to a three-year deal with Jamal Lewis, retaining one of the NFL's top running backs. After undergoing offseason ankle surgery, the 5-11, 245-pound back led the Ravens with 1,097 combined yards last season, including 906 rushing and 191 receiving. Lewis, a 2003 Pro Bowler, returns to a backfield that also added former Denver Broncos running back Mike Anderson. "We are so excited to have Jamal back," said Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome. "If you look at his history, he always rebounds in a big way from adversity. He had a tough 2005 that started with surgery, his incarceration, and then dealing with all of the turmoil during the season with the contract hanging over his head. We expect big things from him." Lewis, who will enter his seventh year, will stay with the team that drafted him out of the University of Tennessee with the fifth overall selection in the 2000 NFL Draft. t.j 35 Posted March 13, 2006 Really makes the Anderson pick-up a ? No it doesn't. Why does everyone assume whenever someone signs a guy that it's to be a full-time starter?
famousb 11 Posted March 13, 2006 sounds to me like RBBC - but hopefully the competition w/ bring the old Jamal back... i guess once CTaylor left, they wanted to quality backup? who was their #3 RB...
-jb- 0 Posted March 13, 2006 No it doesn't. Why does everyone assume whenever someone signs a guy that it's to be a full-time starter? Yeah, thought about that after I posted. I think one assumes that a team should always be grooming someone in the background, not filling it with an old-timer...but in contrast Anderson does have both fullback experience and low miles for his age. adam smitty 0 Posted March 13, 2006 Great, another RBBC for us to deal with
eefflrat 0 Posted March 13, 2006 what does that say about Jamal? he bashes Baltimore, then he gets no love on the open market, and then they bring in a back to split carries to some extent, and he gets a lousy 3 year deal?
famousb 11 Posted March 13, 2006 Great, another RBBC for us to deal with actually, is this paring down the RBBC possibilities in Denver?? i heard from one source that TBell is on the trade block if something good is offered?? and even so, between him and Dayne, one is bound to get injured somewhere in the season... BAL was pretty much RBBC last year between Jamal and CTaylor, so it's not really any different now...

As for Denver, even if Bell gets moved they will still draft or sign another RB. There is no way that they go into the season with only Dayne. Somehow Denver almost always ends up with RBBC. ravenz20 0 Posted March 13, 2006 sounds to me like RBBC - but hopefully the competition w/ bring the old Jamal back... i guess once CTaylor left, they wanted to quality backup? who was their #3 RB... musa smith is the #3 RB i am excited that he is coming back...the competition should bring out the best in both of them now lets improve the O-line
football_scooter 0 Posted March 13, 2006 really makes those Mike Anderson projections from the other topic kinda amusing, no? Hard to get 1400/12 sitting here =>
famousb 11 Posted March 13, 2006 musa smith is the #3 RBi am excited that he is coming back...the competition should bring out the best in both of them now lets improve the O-line oh yeah, Musa Smith. I guess being 3 years in, and having a grand total of 115 yds rushing and receiving puts him in the "bust" category until he breaks away from the injury bug.... does he even make the team this year? kid was a hoss at Georgia wasn't he? built alot like JLew... FunkyMcCool 0 Posted March 13, 2006 Really makes the Anderson pick-up a ? Nah, it makes sense if they got Anderson for the right money. They had to get a replacement for Chester Taylor regardless of what Jailmal did. Is it just me or does it still seem like the Ravens lack RB depth despite these signings? cowboyz 2 Posted March 14, 2006 i think anderson signed $8 mil for 4 years, which is probably the vet min for an old geezer like him
