lsk6453 0 Posted March 14, 2006 As a Pats homer I am not a happy camper. McGinest = gone Givens = gone Vinateri = might as well be gone several other not so large pieces gone: Davis to Buf Chatham to NYJ We keep releasing players and not signing anyone. Every player rumored to be on the Pats radar is getting signed by other teams. There is going to be nothing left but scraps. Come on guys!

lsk6453 0 Posted March 14, 2006 But you still have SUPERBRADY Aside from Branch, who is going to catch the ball. Maybe Buffalo releases Moulds and the Pats sign him to a 1 yr deal and restock at WR next season. Which DBs that are worth anyting are even left?

TD Ryan2 316 Posted March 14, 2006 Aside from Branch, who is going to catch the ball. Daniel Graham? Ben Watson? NE has had a penchant for pulling unknowns off the scrap heap and getting them to play well at WR. With Branch, Graham, and Watson they already have 3 solid targets to throw to. As for Vinatieri... he's a legend around NE and nobody wants to see him go. He's been as clutch as they come. But he's a kicker! A freakin' kicker! Given a choice, of course you want Vinatieri to stay in NE. But if he goes, I'm not feeling all doom&gloom. Really, at this point, the only irreplaceable parts of NE are Kraft, Pioli, Belichick, and Brady. If one of those 4 leave, then I'll worry. Lawyer Milloy? Ty Law? Ted Washington? Damien Woody? David Patten? Antowain Smith? New England has lost their share of players... even team captains. Yet somehow, they've come out like roses every time. Their talent evaluation and cap management has been spectacular up to this point and I don't see any reason to doubt their strategy now. also, a note on Willie McGinnest: Willie was really close to being considered a first round bust. It took a Loooong time before Willie started to produce and at that point, he was succeeding more out of being a heady veteran that being the physical, speedy athlete that he once was. The thing is, McGinnest's style (a DL/LB "tweener") is perfect for the NE scheme. For NE, it's easy to replace Willie with a player who's bigger, faster, younger... but can that player fit into the "tweener" role as easily? Does that player have the head to run the complicated scheme? For Willie, it'll be tough to go somewhere else if they aren't running a 3-4 that can take advantage of his unique style. And even then, there's a lot of miles on McGinnest, can he stay healthy?

Guest stevejohnson Posted March 14, 2006 People have been saying that for years but they always find a way to win.....
Franknbeans 46 Posted March 14, 2006 How quickly you guys 3 out of the last 5 superbowls won and as long as they still have Brady, they'll always be a threat to win another one.
Bad_Mo_focher 1 Posted March 14, 2006 I don't buy into the "make a deal just because" philosophy. Do they have holes that need to be filled ( ), sure. This team is clearing cap space (for what?) and holding many valuable picks in the draft. The writing on the wall is there. However, other than a handful of people, no one can accurately read Belichickese. Extend Seymour, Branch and Koppen, and re-sign AV, and I'm fine with that for free agency. Then package some picks to make some noise in April. Could they be looking to move up to the top 5? hmmmm
fxdx_2003 0 Posted March 15, 2006 They do this every year, it shold not be news to anyone. They sign some scrub off the street, if he makes it through camp and stays on the team, there is a chance he will do ok on this team, big deal! I just can't wait to see who they get. devilsden 0 Posted March 15, 2006 Anyone out there holding their breath that TO goes to Dallas or Denver and NOT Miami? Culpepper to Owens is something I dont want to get used to hearing... If Culpepper is back by midseason I would be surprised and I will also be interested to see how well his knee responds once he does return. Drew Brees signing there would have made be a little more nervous than Culpepper.

Every player rumored to be on the Pats radar is getting signed by other teams. There is going to be nothing left but scraps. Come on guys! Way to early to hit the panic button yet. As for the players they have lost they can be replaced. Givens was a solid receiver but he only had about 60 catches, about 800 yards and 2TD's. Those are numbers that can be replaced. I see Moulds leaving Buffalo and he would make Branch a better receiver if he does come here. They will have Ben Watson still have Troy Brown and Tim Dwight. Adam my be a problem to replace but with the loses that they have had and fewer people to resign it may make it easier to afford to bring him back. I think he will be back. McGinist- the guy has played great for us over the last few years, but he is getting older. Time for them to bring in some youth. Maybe they are planning on moving Beisel over to his spot and seeing if they can salvage that free agen move. The other two were complementary players and they can be replaced. They are doing the same thing that they do every year. Waiting for it to slow down and see what will become available. Not time to hit the panic button just yet. murf74 461 Posted March 16, 2006 NE isn't overspending for players past their prime, that is a good thing. Teams overspending for players past their prime, not a good thing. If you want to build a winner, look at the Steelers and NE....they know when to let a guy go.

Mr Anonymous 24 Posted March 17, 2006 Vinateri made it onto a plane headed for Green Bay Thursday night. He'll be meeting with the Pack tomorrow. I know NE fans were saying if he got on that plane, he was good as gone. As, a Packers fan, I sure hope so.
