Seattle signs Bernard

Does this make it harder to match the offer for Hutch?

I wish I had up to date numbers.

My guess, (right now my brain has no coffee and a big head cold)

We were 17 mil under. Today 1 mil for Warrick, say 4 mil. for Rocky

(again, I'm just throwing out numbers)

We might be 12 million under the cap???????

The good news is we're already over 6 mil invested into Hutch, so it would only be the difference, about what, 2 mil. more?

Should be in great shape.

The Seahawks will have a very hard time matching the Vikes offer because of wording in the offer that states Hutchinson must be the top paid lineman on the team or his whole contract is guaranteed.

It's worded that he has to be paid the top lineman on his team for 2006. Nothing about the length of the contract.

"Seahawks | Contract update: Hutchinson provision

Mon, 13 Mar 2006 17:12:40 -0800

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports Seattle Seahawks transition free agent OG Steve Hutchinson has a provision in his contract which states he must be the highest paid offensive lineman on his team for the 2006 season or his entire $50 million contract becomes guaranteed"

Now if the guy signs a brand new, front loaded contract. Wouldn't he be making the most money this year anyways?

The way I last heard it. Seattle was already on the hook for 6.3 million. They would have to throw in another 2 plus million, to their payroll to match him. I believe it was something like 8.5 million he be making this year. That's gotta be more than Walter Jones for the 2006 season?

I am surprised. I didn't think they would be able to retain Bernard. There were other teams interested in him, including the Eagles. :first:

From what i read Walter Jones will be making more money still. Hutchinson will be $7.0 while Jones will be around $7.5.
