Titans sign former Pitt safety Chris Hope

6 years as per KFFL, $30M, $10 of which is guaranteed signing bonus as per USAToday (since $5M a year for 6 is 30, so that might not be 100% accurate).

Easily our most expensive signing, and it wasn't really as high profile as Thornton and Givens.

As a Steeler fan I am always sad to see one go elsewhere........but why are the Titans giving this guy $5 mill a year? I am happy with getting Skins Safety Clark at under $2 mill to take his place....I mean wow that is a lot of money for Hope.

I pretty surprised by this one too. Admittedly I haven't kept much of an eye on Hope. Maybe he's better at the position he didn't get to play (with Polamalu there)...hopefully that's the case.

Is Hope going to be a SS? They guy hits hard but does not wrap up. I remember Reuben Droughns taking him for a ride a few times the first time they played them last year. And Rudi Johnson ran over him in the playoff. He is there for the tackle, and it just doesn't seem like he has the strength to bring guys down after the initial hit.

I'm sad to see him go as a Steelers fan. He was a solid starter and I never had any problem with him. However he is replaceable and we will find someone to step up.

I like the moves the Titans have made, but they gave Givens way too much money.

Ryan Clark sounds almost like an equal and for 1/4 of the money!!!!!!

Steelers are extremely thin at FS so I am pretty sure they address depth in the draft or maybe a future starter to groom under vet Clark.

Skins fans seem to like Clark.

Clark fit into Greg Williams scheme - but he CONSISTANTLY gives up the big plays, either by his lack of trackling abiliy or giving up the pass play when he is lock onto the slot WR. I figure Steeelrs have a similar style of blitzing Defensive.... which make Clark the target.

Lets revisiit this thread about week 5 or 6... and Id be curious see your thoughts on Clark then.

dont get me wrong, solid player... but gives up BIG plays ALOT

I thought the Titans did well with this signing, really solidifying the secondary a bit. Remember, Chris Hope has been calling the defensive backfield plays for one of the more complex defensive systems in the NFL, and been playing at a high level - albeit overshadowed - at the same time.

On the flip side, while I like the Ryan Clark signing, and the reduced number which allows the Steelers to keep more together, it will be asking a lot for him to step in and "replace" Chris Hope. He will be learning the system that he is supposed to call plays for. Um. I'm thankful we got Deshea Townsend back. The return of the rest of the secondary will allow Clark to learn on the job a bit more freely.
