With Moss and Porter is Brooks a sleeper? Lord knows he can't do any worse the Kerry Collins and even he was able to put up decent numbers for a bunch of games last season!

Up until last year, Brooks was always a pretty decent fantasy QB....in Oakland, I think he could return to that.

I think they will sign Brooks, but still draft Vince Young and groom Young to be their starter no later than 2008. JMO.

man I can't wait to hear the positive spin Raider fans try to put on this. My best friend (die hard Raider fan) is going to slash his wrists - he hates Brooks.

That team will turn on him so fast the 1st backwards pass or dump off to an inelligible OL's helmet...not to mention how craptastic that O-Line is - it gives NO's 2005 line a run for the money.

And the Raiders will still lad the league in penalties - Brooks will officially be on my "do not draft" list right next to Randy "will he play this week?" Moss.

I think its the right fit. A definate fantasy force also Brooks would be in Oakland. Brooks isnt an elite QB but he's a solid starting QB. His skills fit with the players and system they have now. They could still grab Vince Young at the same time if they want him.

If Baltimore happens to get lucky enough to get McNair, Collins could be SOL. I dont think McNair is going anywhere though. I think Baltimore signs Collins. They could even lowball him if Oakland signs Brooks first.

 It makes sense. They will be competitive with Brooks but they would certainly be looking to the future with Young.

Were you around last year for the multitudes of "Kerry Collins will throw 4000 yards and 30 TDs" topics?

Aaron Brooks will be hyped up all offseason, will be rumored to throw 4000 yds with 35 TDs, and will get drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round - after all, he's "throwing to Randy Moss" - what could possibly go wrong?

As a Raider fan, it makes no sense to me, I think it is a terrible idea. They've got about 15 other starting positions they need to shore up without a very high draft pick and $10M per year on two QBs who are huge question marks.

On the radio they said that the Raiders held Brooks over for another day of talks in Oakland. Seems like a signing is eminent.

What's the deal with Walters? Isn't he suppossed to be the heir apparent at the QB position?

And the best part is that there will still be numb nuts this fantasy season drafting Moss in the 1st round, even though he will be lucky to put up 10th round WR numbers in Oakland.

Mike McCarthy and Green Bay are talking about Brooks, but I don't know that they've talked to him. If Brooks and McCarthy got along in New Orleans, it might work in Green Bay. Unless Oakland beats them to it.

And we all saw how well that worked out in NO. :headbanger:

You know, it's funny.......if you were to forget everything you know or have seen of Aaron Brooks, and just looked at his raw numbers, you'd think he was one of the top five QBs in the league....

No joke. Go to proreference.com some time and look at the stats. For several years there, they were about as good as could be found.

Actually, here's a link....from 2001-2004 is what I'm referring to.

his comp % is horrid, is this more a case of his targets having bad hands, or him having the accuracy of a kerry collins clone?

He wasn't far off the yardage mark with 3,760 in 15 games including a rather pedestrian (by his standards) 1,005 on 60 catches for Moss.

Kerry Collins

Randy Moss

The way people talk about Collins you'd think he was in Daunte Culpepper territory last season who happened to toss twice the INTs as TDs. Collins actually had a respectable TD-INT ratio of 20-13 plus 1 rushing TD. He finished top 10 in every league I'm in. His late season was bad. Weeks 11, 12 and 13 were average, he missed 14 and 15 and 16 were bad.

I'm not saying Collins is even close to superstar status but the results were more respectable than people are letting on.

Really the same with Brooks' career as Fumbleweed has pointed out.

Good point. People HAVE to separate his worth to the team and his fantasy value. In terms of his worth to his team, he was questionable with his decision making. I think his worth is understated, however, because so much is made of his really bad decisions.

In terms of fantasy value, the man always seems to find a way to finish in the top 10-12 QBs every year, which is good enough to start. I don't like him because he's too inconsistent from week to week, but since he usually comes relatively cheap in drafts, you can stockpile a lot of talent at other positions ahead of him and then use him as your QB. At that point you don't have to rely on 18 points a game every week from him, and he'll give you enough to throw him out there almost every week.

Indeed, however I was making a statement more about the situation than the player.

Collins on the Raiders could never reach 30 TDs because the team around him proved to be less than competent. The OL, the defense and the coaching failed him.

Likewise with Brooks - capable as he may be of putting up numbers, he's still going to take snaps behind that O-Line, and between the coach and the owner, who knows what sort of offensive scheme will be run.

2:1 TD:Int rate was indeed a very decent showing by Collins. But it resulted in a 4-12 record. Is Brooks going to perform any better than that? Moss seems to be on the downside of his career, or his body is wearing out judging from 2004 and 2005 - Brooks might be able to do more with less on the O-Line because of his mobility, but no one would ever accuse Brooks of being a smarter QB. I think Brooks may well hit 25 TDs, but his 20 picks will result in a marginally better record if any improvement at all.

We'll have to wait & see how things pan out in the offseason with their O-Line and defense, but for right now I am way not on the Raiders bandwagon in terms of FFB.
