Redskins Cap Situation

Recommended Posts

All I know is that there is a lot bickering back and forth, a lot of bulldung, a lot of smoke-blowing… and when all is said and done, the end result of this thread is that the Redskins will still suck.

<_<

If you are a team that hasnt done well drafting players then whats the next best option?? Thats right, free agency. I mean really, what difference does it make if you draft the right player or take him from another team down the road. You know that player can succeed in the NFL so who cares how you got him??

It matters because its normally a lot cheaper to get a starter via the draft than it is via free agency. You give your team more payroll flexibility and allow yourself to be deeper if you can build well through the draft.

When is the last time the skins were in cap hell?? And they did make it to the second round of the playoffs last season doing so by winning a game on the road. And whether you like the players they got or not, they still upgraded at the positions that they needed to.

Antowain Smith

Ted Washington

notable (i.e. starting caliber) players NE drafted:

2000 A Klemm, T Brady, P Pass

2001 Richard Seymour, Matt Light

2002 D Graham, D Branch, J Green, D Givens

2003 T Warren, E Wilson, B Johnson, A Samuel, D Koppen (also D Klecko? T Banta-Cain?)

(Ted Washington acquired for a 4th round pick {104th overall - DT Isaac Sopoaga})

2004 V Wilfork, B Watson, G Scott (also PK Sam?)

(Corey Dillon acquired for a 2nd round pick {56th overall - DB Madieu WIlliams})

2005 L Mankins, E Hobbs, N Kaczur, J Sanders (? M Cassel)

- since 2000, NE hasn't had one BUST with a first round pick and has done extremely well in the mid to late rounds.

notable FA's for NE:

2000 J Andruzzi, B Hamilton, Otis Smith

2001 L Izzo, D PatteRn, R Phifer, A Pleasant, M Vrabel, A Smith

2002 C Fauria (D Hayes?)

2003 R Colvin, R Harrison, Ty Poole, M Cloud, D Davis, B Gorin

2004 K Traylor

2005 M Beisel, C Brown, T Dwight, D Flutie, A Hawkins, C Scott, D Terrell

- a majority of NE FA signings were "under the radar" type signings: Vrabel was a leftover, cut from the PIT practice squad; Hamilton, Phifer, Pleasant, O Smith were all middle of the road veterans that Belichick was familiar with.

The biggest FA signing was Roosevelt Colvin. Though the Harrsion signing has proven to be more beneficial, many thought Rodney had lost a step when NE signed him. Colvin was THE BIG FISH in the '03 FA market.

NE has been successful thru both good drafting and smart FA acquisition.

The only BIG FISH FA NE really went after was Colvin and really, he's been a bust for them.

That's where WAS has made their mistakes.

They are constantly going after the BIG FISH FA's and getting burned.

Where did I say they were in cap hell? I think the argument in this thread is that the Redskins have made some terrible free agency signings over the past few years (some of them being very costly). Maybe they're turning it around now and have added more talent, but the point is that adding big name talent via FA doesn't automatically equate to success.

Just ignore it. You're debating with a rookie whose username is that of a felon. Let it go.

I am too busy to read this entire thread, but I was wondering...has anyone mentioned that the 'skins suck?
