Current RBBC's

Recommended Posts

So here's the RB situation as I figure it to be:

Clearcut Starting RBs:

ATL - Dunn

AZ - Edge

BAL - J. Lewis

BUF - McGahee

CIN - R. Johnson

CLE - Droughns

DAL - J. Jones

DET - K. Jones

HOU - D. Davis

KC - L. Johnson

MIA - R. Brown

MIN - C. Taylor

NYG - T. Barber

NYJ - Martin

OAK - L. Jordan

PHI - Westbrook

PIT - Parker

SD - Tomlinson

SEA - Alexander

STL - S. Jackson

TB - Cadillac

WAS - Portis

RBBC:

CAR - Foster / D. Williams

CHI - T. Jones / Benson

DEN - Dayne / Bell

GB - Green / Davenport / Gado

IND - Rhodes / Addai

JAX - F. Taylor / Jones

NE - Dillon / Maroney

NO - McAllister / Bush

SF - Barlow / Gore

TEN - C. Brown / Henry / L. White

I know there's short yardage backs in both Atlanta and Pittsburgh, but Dunn and Parker are similar RBs who should get 20 touches a game. Arguments can be made that Julius and Westbrook are going to face competition from Marion Barber and Mahe, but I expect both to get 20 touches a game as well. Julius closed great last year and I think M. Barber's fumbling problems caused his lesser role towards the end of the year. I expect Westbrook to come back healthy and reclaim his starting RB role...he's too good not to. I don't think Mahe did enough to create a controversy. CMart should get less touches than normal, but NYJ did a great job filling some offensive line holes and he should have a better line in front of him this season. I don't expect Cedric Houston to be much more than a breather RB while CMart is healthy.

Thoughts?

Looks pretty accurate. Hopefully some of the RBBC situations will become clearer in camp.

Others, like Kev Jones could be more confusing in camp. Jones has a history of always getting hurt and haven't watched Calhoun at all but there are quite a few people who are enamored with him and seems like a good fit for Martz's system

Yeah, I meant to touch on Kevin Jones. I think he'll be used and featured more this year than the past 2. Calhoun was originally projected to be a early 2nd round pick from the mocks I saw, so I think Detroit got good value with him in the 3rd. I don't view him as a threat to Kevin Jones' starting job however. I think he'll just be used in a situational basis. Even if he replaces KJ on passing downs, that's real similar to Rudi/Chris Perry in Cincy, and that obviously doesn't impact Rudi's value that much in non-PPR leagues.

Do you think that the huge running back that the Giants have are going to start eating into Tiki Barbers numbers and vulturing TD's? He did pretty well last year in short yardage. Is this a possible RBBC?

DAL - J. Jones

MIN - C. Taylor

NYJ - Martin

Here are 3 that have me a little worried going into the year:

JJ should be ok but one injury and MBIII may get the chance to roll.

C Taylor should also be ok but with all those RBs up there you never know.

Martin is the one that worries me the most. I see him really slowing down and C Houston getting carries and maybe the job. He ran well last year. I woud guess they will draft one next year and if they are as bad as they look, maybe even A Peterson

i would just watch these 3 closely.

No RBBC, but he'll probably steal a few TDs like he did last year.

Duce Staley should see significant carries in Pittsburgh if he can stay healthy. Parker will still be the starter and get the most but staley will be a key part to the offense.

Definitely, but I don't see his role being much different from Bettis' role.

It will be similar definetly, but when you run the ball as much as the Steelers do, you need two backs who you can trust with at least 12 carries.

This is however a 2 step process in that you need to give more weight to injury probability.

Foster will crack and whomever is in the backfield with Dunn will get the carries.

the word out of detroit today is that calhoun will also line up in the slot at times during games this season. martz thinks he'd be good there.

A Martz back has never gotten more than about 250 carries in a season though. If he doesn;t get the receptions, he's only a borderline #2 RB.

Lovie Smith wants to hang on to T. Jones, but I am not sure that will survive the summer. Benson may have no competition. The Carolina thing could be all over the board, don't forget Nick Goings had a stint both in 2004 & 2005, with 6 games of 100yds in 2004 and a few less in 2005. Does the Sam Gado hype machine start this early.... I know Tice is gone, but till I see no RBBC in Minny I don't believe that C. Taylor has the job locked up.

My comments on your list..

Clearcut Starting RBs:

ATL - Dunn (Until Duckett stops stealing TD's this is RBBC in my opinion)

BAL - J. Lewis

BUF - McGahee

CIN - R. Johnson (C.Perry will get more play time depending on situations but not a true RBBC yet)

CLE - Droughns

DAL - J. Jones (I would call this RBBC until further notice with Marion Barber)

DET - K. Jones (Shawn Bryson got a lot of carrys last year)

HOU - D. Davis

KC - L. Johnson

MIA - R. Brown

MIN - C. Taylor

NYG - T. Barber

NYJ - Martin (This may turn into RBBC with Cedric Houston)

OAK - L. Jordan

PHI - Westbrook

PIT - Parker (Staley will play a factor)

SD - Tomlinson

SEA - Alexander

STL - S. Jackson

TB - Cadillac

WAS - Portis

RBBC:

CAR - Foster / D. Williams

CHI - T. Jones / Benson

DEN - Dayne / Bell

GB - Green / Davenport / Gado

IND - Rhodes / Addai

JAX - F. Taylor / Jones

NE - Dillon / Maroney (Dillion will still carry the load as long as they let him not RBBC until next year)

NO - McAllister / Bush

SF - Barlow / Gore (One will take over full-time duty this year)

TEN - C. Brown / Henry / L. White

I have a feeling Mike Anderson might steal some carries away from Jamal Lewis. And like curry said AZ has EDGE as their back now. Other than that its a good list.

JAX is proabably the worst RBBC clusterf*ck in the NFL right now

which i don't get because tiki is more successful in short yardage than jacobs in the first place.

Haha, I have no clue how I forgot Edge, or even Arizona as a team. :first: I added him.

I dunno, but since Jax was already in RBBC I guess it just adds to the confusion. Wasn't Pearman drafted last year to be the 3rd down back? What a mess.

-- Addai & Rhodes to Share Time --

Mon May 1, 2006 --from FFMastermind.com

The Indianapolis Star reports the Colts' offense probably will remain a one-back attack in 2006, with a twist. RB Joseph Addai, the 30th overall pick in the NFL draft, is expected to share time with veteran RB Dominic Rhodes. "At least that's the way we see it now,'' Colts president Bill Polian said Sunday. "You wouldn't expect a rookie to step right into a team like this. (With) a team that has been winning big, you'd expect him to play some, but not have to carry the whole load.''

Good find. I think Addai will slowly take that job away as the season goes on, however.

Indy is trying to win NOW. They can't afford to work in a rookie who will naturally have rookie mistakes. Rhodes did fine when Edge was out, I don't see Addai being the man going into the playoffs. We're going to see Manning fall back to his pass happy days, and Rhodes is just there to keep them honest.

Plus theres reports Indy will be aggressive in the FA market. I'd expect them to bring in another RB before its said and done.
