RamslovaMartzhata 3 Posted May 1, 2006 I was wondering what the bored's thoughts are on USC football players and why they all fell below expectations of where they would be drafted. Do people believe that character issues had something to do with it... or were there legitimate concerns about them as football players as far as physical tools are concerned (or both). As a LA sports fan I realize that the country has a lot of "Hate" when it comes to Southern California in general... so did that, combined with recent news that raised character issues about the USC program in general hurt? My take is that it is a bit of both. Leinart had arm strength issues, but no more issues than Vince Young has as a pro QB... so it had to deal with character issues. Winston Justice really had no big physical flaws, and he is a gret example of a clear cut example of a character issue dropping a guy's value (IMO). People are questioning his physical attributes, which I find hilarious. Justice made some poor decision, paid the price for a year and came back last year rusty. His film is not all that impressive (Trojan alum here) and he needed to be here another year to develop. there's no questioning his physical tools, he simply isn't ready to play at the high level yet. Bush's people took a calculated risk asking for more money and they failed their client, IMO. He was offered 8% over Alex Smith's deal, they were greedy. As an aside, I find it interesting that some of the trojans were/are getting knocked for being surrounded with so much talent, therefore inflating their stature. but then in the draft the Trojans clearly aren't rated highly, most fell below where they were projected by the experts. So what is it, are they overrated because of all the talent or are they overrated and the system is just that good? Is this a vindication of coach Carroll? Simply put, no other team would have selected VY at #1 overall. So if the Texans are dumb for passing on VY at #1, then they've got quite a lot of company.
