Bill E. 703 Posted May 8, 2006 I have been playing FF for over ten years and in this league for 5. It has been around for a lot longer than that, I got in kind of late. The comish used a 3rd party website, not a yahoo or CBS type so it had character and some more options. It was a small stakes $50 keeper league, but all the people involved were class acts. I only remember one minor disagreement in five years on a trade and it was just one owner bitching about a guy making a stupid trade. The comish was always on top of things and more than fair. It was the best run league of the few dozen that I have been part of. I kind of saw it coming. His wife had kids each of the last two years and last year he was slower than usual with updates and his e-mails seemed kind of stressed. It is very strange, but I feel like I have lost a good friend.

Bill E. 703 Posted May 8, 2006 sorry to hear about your loss Bill, u will rebound soon and find a new league. good luck in the future Probably so. . I was excited with my keepers going into this year. Plus I got a killer trade offer that I was dragging my feet on since the season was so far away.

jocstrap 8 Posted May 8, 2006 Man, if I lost the league I was in for the past 6 years I would be lost. I look forward to the trash talking each week, knowing the faces I battle against. Heartbreak I tell you. This is my favorite hobby (i know that's sad but true) and it would be devastating. My condolences fantasy football friend!
Let Da Big Dog Eat 40 Posted May 8, 2006 Why dont you commish the league? Good point. And as a 10+ year Commish I will tell you this. It's a hard job when you have to do things like veto a trade (you have to have a better reason to veto than their reason to let it go thru) but in the end, if you do a good job everyone will thank you. And, more importantly, they buy you beers.
JetsFan28 0 Posted May 8, 2006 Haha...nah, that's a bummer. If you want to keep the league alive, then you should go for the commish spot. If not, I'm confident that you will find another good league. Good luck!
Bill E. 703 Posted May 8, 2006 Why dont you commish the league? I was asked to do it, but I know that I could not dedicate the time that would be needed to do it right. One thing that made the league so nice was that the comish was so on top of things. I just would not do a good enough job. I am only in one other league and it is not as nice but I will have something to keep me into FF. One of the guys in this league runs a for profit league that some other people are very happy with. He keeps like 20% of the buy-in. I think that is probably fair since it is a job that I am not willing to do, but I have not been able to bring myself to join a for profit league. Eh, with as good as the websites out there have gotten, beyond organizing the draft, initial setup of the website, and trade approval, there's really not a whole lot more a commish needs to do any more. edit: Oh yeah, forgot trash talk. As commish, it's your job to make sure a healthy level of trash talk is maintained at all times.

Sounds like a great league. Bill, if you are interested in letting me take a look at the league, I may be able to run it. I've been involved in FF for 6 years, and have been looking into running a league. Let me know if you are interested. I could take over the former commish's team and run the league. s@dataz.com Thanks, Paul.
