Tough Poker Hand

I don't like to post these hands, but this one sucked a bit for me:

 

(2-4 limit, short table)

 

I have Ac, Jc. I raise preflop. 1 person calls. Flop is Ad, Js, Qh. I bet out, player x raises me; I call.

 

Turn is Ah. After making my boat, I'm sure I'm good and am . He bets, I raise, he reraises, I cap the betting.

 

River is Kc. I'm over here praying that he somehow has a 10 for the straight. I bet, he raises, I reraise, he caps the betting.

 

I show A, J, Aces full of Jacks.

He shows A, K, Aces full of Kings. My face:

 

Those are the losses I hate. He definately should have been in the hand, should have been raising, and just caught a 3 outer on the river. The sucky part is that it was an $82 pot, $40 of which was mine.

 

Anyway, probably rats ass.

The more ya play the more you run into these things. I've been playing a lot since Friday, even for me.

 

Some good and bad hands. Had AJ flopped an A and a J, ended up with Jacks over aces...ran into the big blind with pocket aces, Aces over Jacks.

 

Posted in my thread my AA versus KK versus QQ all three of us just about all in, since it was real early in the tourney and we all had about the same stack. They both flopped a set.

 

Got Quad sevens and was able to get paid off when the board had flush and full house possiblities. A few games later got quad Aces and was able to get paid off for the same reasons.

Happens to everyone. Just be thankful it was a 2-4 limit game and not a 1-2 or 2-5 NL. You could have easily lost $500+ on that hand.

 

Also, he could have had KT and flopped the straight, or AQ/AA and had you the whole way. Generally I try to think not of what my cards are, but what could they have to stay in the pot - especially with an 'action flop' like AQJ. Not to say I wouldn't have kept capping the bets... but I may have slowed down after the turn, unless the guy I was going against had been capping weak hands in the past.

When he raised the flop, I put him on an ace or maybe even a str8, best case scenario. If he had Ace queen, I was gonna pay him off on it once the turn hit another ace. I realize how luck I am that it was 2-4 limit, and that's why I stay away from NL cash games. At what point could I lay down that hand?

I made a pact with myself to not get involved in big NL hands unless I had the nuts with little chance of a suckout. Too many times I wold grind out a decent profit over a few hours to get wiped out on one bad hand because I was either out-drawn or simply had a monster hand met by a cooler (to use Helmuth's term). I've found that if I play my style and stay out of major confrontations I will come out ahead a vast majority of the time.

For instance: I have TT, and the flop is T9 of clubs and the 3 of spades. If one guy bets big, and another guy pushes his whole stack in, I may very well dump my top set if I don't have a lot in the pot already.

 

If the board is T 6 3 rainbow, I'll call every time.

 

Don't be a pain in the ass, you know what I mean. I don't like risking a lot of $$ unless I feel VERY confident I will come out the winner in the end. I won't make huge calls based on odds where I'm favored to win by only a little the way the pros will.
