Evil Big Oil donates $12 million to research alternative fuels

Recommended Posts

WTF are these bastages thinking? They should be out destroying the environment.

Georgia Tech has formed a research partnership with Chevron Corp. to investigate technology to make cellulosic biofuels and hydrogen viable transportation fuels.

Chevron Technology Ventures, a subsidiary of San Ramon, Calif.-based Chevron (NYSE: CVX), will work with Georgia Tech's Strategic Energy Institute and contribute up to $12 million over five years for research into and development of the emerging energy technologies.

The joint research will focus on developing commercially viable processes to make transportation fuels from renewable resources such as forests and agricultural waste. The alliance will focus its research on production of cellulosic biofuels, understanding the characteristics of biofuel feedstocks, developing regenerative sorbents and improving sorbents used to produce high-purity hydrogen.

The partners said this is an important advancement over first-generation biofuels such as ethanol and biodiesel, which are made from agricultural crops such as corn, sugarcane and soybeans.

"This research alliance underscores Chevron's commitment to expand and diversify the world's energy sources and represents an ambitious effort to achieve breakthrough technology in the development of cellulosic biofuels," said Don Paul, chief technology officer for Chevron. "Beyond this project, Chevron in 2006 expects to spend approximately $400 million in the development of alternative and renewable energy technologies and in delivering energy efficiency solutions."

"it can be done but we're going to use our power and money to buy off the government so it won't be done in any significant way--just enough to keep the bleeding hearts and tree huggers happy" (lights big cigar, laughs azz off).

Makes sense. No way a company would like to be the first one to invent and own the rights to a way to replace the internal combustion engine. No money in that. :first:

With as much as they're making right now, yes.

The funny thing about the libs  it's not enough money,is that they(the Liberals) are the VERY reason Big Oil makes so much money, with there over-regulation,Oil can not expand in the US.

Like the Gulf of Mexico,we can't let US companies drill there, but the Messicans can.
