Amphetamines added to substance abuse

Can't believe this wasn't posted earlier. Saw it while watching ING 9 hole championship. Yeah, I am a golfer.

What the article did not say and the trailer said was that it will be treated just like steriods. 1st offense, 4 games, 2nd, 8 games and 3rd, 1 year. Also, trailer noted meth. Said niether is being tested for now???????

My guess is that it will affect a number of players this year.

What's wrong with just doing this?

Also, since those are illegal, will legal action follow from a positive test?

Candidates anyone?

Amphetamine (alpha-methyl-phenethylamine), also known as speed, is a synthetic stimulant used to suppress the appetite, control weight, and treat disorders including narcolepsy and Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. It is also used recreationally and for performance enhancement (these uses are illegal in most countries).

Due to the widespread use of amphetamines as a treatment for ADD/ADHD in the USA, Canada, and other countries, they frequently find their way onto the street and are one of the most frequently-abused drugs in high schools and colleges.

now you know

i dont think it will have much more of an impact than the regulations against weed do now

also, since there is no legal ramifications against weed, i doubt there will be any here either

i think this only makes sense and to tell you the truth, im surprised that it wasnt already on the list

1. Speed is an upper, has been used by baseball players for decades. Theoreticaly it helps pro athletes sustain their energy levels through the grind of a season.

 is a depressant and has no performance enhancing qualities whatsoever. Although I guess it can help one's performance in the bedroom from time to time.

2. The only way ANYONE in this country can go to jail for illegal drug USE is if you are already on probation and violate the terms of your probation by testing positive for an illegal drug or if you are operating a motor vehicle and your BAC is over the legal limit.

Otherwise, drug USE is not illegal. Drug POSSESSION is. Pro athletes test positive for illegal drugs like weed and coke all the time and there is no legal ramification.

Just like if you or I tested positive for an illegal drug at our job, we could get terminated but would not face legal action.

From the few sites I have read on this subject.

I think the issue has less to do with whether the drug is legal or not.

But rather more to do with the health of the athlete or investment.

Use as an apetite supressent = hello overweight linemen

Use to increase aggressoin = sounds like something in the former Bronco/Raider LB pillbox to me

Impairs ability of user to know if they are injured = what else is in those shots before the game?

As a fan I am concern with the increased number of injuries I am seeing in the game.

Is one thing to see your team ripped apart from FA.

But is another thing to see your favorite guy hobbled off the field with a shortened career.

Ephedra

Ephedra is a plant that contains the chemical ephedrine, a stimulant similar to amphetamines. Athletes may take an over-the-counter supplement containing ephedra to reduce physical fatigue, lose weight or improve mental alertness.

In late December 2003, the Food and Drug Administration announced the ban of ephedra from the marketplace because of health concerns.

Also known as ma-huang, popotillo and ephedrae herba, ephedra can cause such side effects as strokes, seizures and heart attacks — even death. Ephedra can raise your blood sugar and cause an irregular heart rhythm. Long-term use can lead to addiction. If you check the labels of sports energy drinks or energy bars, you may find they include ephedra.

This is nearly unenforceable.

Speed, Cocaine, and most other drugs besides pot are flushed out of your sytem very quickly. Pot can be detected weeks later.

Unless they are going to have players pee in a cup on their way off the field, they are not going to catch very many people using speed. This is all PR, not that their's anything wrong with that. Meth/speed is highly addictive and dangerous. The only non-dangerous drug (and not even performance enhancing) is the only one that testing is good at detecting. STUPID!

:first:

Besides that, I'm sure there are a few smart player chemists out there who can figure what other prescriptions or OTC drugs have amphetamine-like qualities in them.

I would suspect that speed offenders will get caught towards the end of the season, when the grind starts to take it's toll.

With that said, however, is the simple fact that most NFLers are hyper mother effers to begin with. Guys who are in great physical shape have more energy, and live lifestyles where they are afforded the luxury

of recuperation. Let's face it, they only really work during the summer and on gameday.

They're never to be confused with guys like you and I who work 40-55 hours in any given week.

Threre are a few prescription drugs that will give you a false positive for amphetamies now. Its probaby not apropriate to mention them here. It will be intresting to see how many player suddenly have a prescription for these when they test positive.

Meth specifically is an incredibly destructive drug, it literally eats you brain away.
