joesmith 0 Posted July 6, 2006 Gates is obviously Gates, but now he will have to deal with the Rivers factor. If Rivers pans out, then Gates will continue to be a monster. If not....... Chambers showed a flash of brilliance in the second half of last season and now seems to have a much better QB situation. That is, of course, if Daunte comes back and plays to his old form. If not, Chambers is looking at Harrington. Long term who produces better numbers?
Nitsugua 0 Posted July 6, 2006 Chris Chambers! Culpepper throwing him the ball will produce monster numbers! Philip Rivers can throw deeper than Drew Brees and will be able to finally hit his WRs, not to mention LT getting more Receptions.

DaveJ 0 Posted July 6, 2006 Chambers in my opinion.... you can't compare WR to TE. A top TE like Gonzo or Gates has been in the past, still does not add up to a top tier WR and Chambers is borderline that now without C-Pep in the mix...

Little Big Head 6 Posted July 6, 2006 If you play in a TE required league, I like Gates over Chambers. It's nice to have the best player at a position. I think recievers of Chambers caliber can be had a rd. later. Gates will never get out of rd.3 in a league with xp players.

Chambers may well have a huge year / years to come, but so will many other WR's. There are only a select few TE's who will produce like Gates in the coming years. It is simply a matter of supply of top notch TE's vs WR's. If you get any extra points for TE's or are required to carry a TE, it is Gates hands down. football is life 0 Posted July 6, 2006 I like Gates. The SDG O-line is very underrated, which will help develop a young Rivers.

Also, Chambers has only lived up to his potential one season thus far in his career. I like CPep throwing to him, but the difference between Gates and the next TE is probably going to be greater then the difference between Chambers and the guy you'll likely have in his place. G3-175SE 0 Posted July 6, 2006 That is a tough one. I like Gates and would normally take him before Chambers but with the upgrade of QB in Miami and the uncertainy of the QB situation in San Diego I am not sure. We know that Gates was a favorite target of Brees but there is no way to predict want Rivers will do. I do play in TE required leagues. I think I would probably take Chambers first. TD Ryan2 316 Posted July 6, 2006 TE req'd league? Gates already is THE elite TE. Chambers may (one day) be amongst the elite WRs. in a TE req'd league, THE elite TE is just as valuable as a legit #1 WR. Gates all the way here.
Boston 0 Posted July 6, 2006 Agree with the thoughts of others who selected Gates. Gates is by far the man at TE and since he's 26 (he's younger than Chambers) and still learning how to play football he probably hasn't reached his peak yet. Chambers has the potential to be big time but it will be far easier to find someone of his ilk than someone like Gates.
jpcdds 26 Posted July 6, 2006 Gates by FAR...to get a TE who will give you #1 WR stats is such an advantage. Let's put it this way...if your league allowed you to start a WR in your TE spot (and still be allowed to start your 2 normal wr's) who avg'd 85 receptions...1000plusyds and 11 1/2 tds over the last 2 years would you do it????? Well that's a Gates in a nutshell...end of story!!!
