Terrell Davis

He will get in eventually, just not a first ballot selection.

Runningback's during TD's time that were equal too if not better then him overall:

Emmitt Smith - 8 pro bowls

Barry Sanders - 10 pro bowls

Marshall Faulk - 7 pro bowls

Curtis Martin - 5 pro bowls

Eddie George - 4 pro bowls

Ricky Watters - 5 pro bowls

Jerome Bettis - 6 pro bowls <----how did he make 6 pro-bowls?

Terrell Davis - 3 pro bowls

I think we can agree Barry, Emmitt, Marshall, and Curtis are better then TD and HoF'ers. Eddie, Ricky, and Jerome (though Jerome might be the worst out of all these players) were darn consistant year in and year out, though they never had a signature year like Terrell, but career stats are far ahead of TD.

His career was too short, though totally unfair, 3 great season doesn't make a HoF'er.

which is pretty much the reason he is in the hall and TD isn't. Emmit was consistently great for over a decade, while TD was a flash in the pan. They both had great QBs, great o-lines, but only one holds the all-time rushing record.

you might want to check that, Emmitt isn't in bub

of course he will be once his 5 years is up but not for now it isn't

TD could slip in but i agree that there are people who have been waiting longer and should get in ahead of him

he did play a huge role in the SBs for the Broncos and he did do some amazing things

i dont think career stats should be the defining point here, its how they performed season to season which he did very well

i think his rushing titles, MVPs, and SB MVP will get him creditability and a reasonable chance although first ballot is pushing it

my vote = YES

but i don't think he'll get in. everyone holds it against him that he had a short career (so did Gale Sayers though) and that Broncos RBs have had good seasons after him. personally i think thats BS. they guy was the MVP of 2 Super Bowl teams, hands down MVP. i don't care if he had a "nice situation" or whatever, the guy was the best player on the best team and therefore a defining player in NFL history. to me, he's gotta be in. the short career hurts but as noted Galey Sayers is in. and the argument of RBs success in Denver holds no weight to me: none of them won MVP or Super Bowl and no one punishes Montana for having Rice or Young for following Montana, etc.

It depends on how many players you want in the HoF.

To me, his is a no brainer. TD deserves the HoF. Yes his career was short, but you can go to the Hall for being extremely dominant, as well as for a long distinguished career. Factor in the postseason, and the MVP's and its not close.

The problem with the arguments so far is that they compare him to Barry, Emmitt and Marshall, three of the best in history. All are, or will be, first ballot entries. TD belongs on the next tier, that's all. You should be comparing him to Thurman Thomas, Eddie George, Jerome Bettis, Ricky Watters, and so on. In the regular season, you can make the case that one or another compares, but none come close in the postseason, or in clutch games generally.

That's not fair, but it is the way things work. Thurman Thomas is a HoF'er in my book, for example, but not in Canton's book, yet. Yet I have no problem putting TD's short dominance and playoff heroics over TT's continued excellence.

If you want a better comp, try Earl Campbell, HoF, and also worn out very quickly.

nope, too tired to explain

 Exactly! If they don't get why he's not a Hall of Famer from the earlier posts, they never will.

I agree, this should be a no brainer. I do agree that he wouldn't get in for "career" stats, but I do believe he deserves consideration for the pure dominance of his performance during the time he was active (particulary his first four years). He was strong and consistent during the season, his postseason performances were amazing, MVPs, etc.....

And regardless of how you look at it, he completed the puzzle for Denver and took them over the top. You can argue Elway or Davis, but they only won it all together (along with Smith, McCaffrey, Sharpe, et...).

Ignoring his last three non-seasons, his four year stats are beyond dominating......

Try again dude. He had 3, count them again, 3 great years. 1995 was solid, but far from dominating. 8 TD's?

I'm not sure if you noticed my earlier post, but Kurt Warner has 2 League MVPs and a Superbowl MVP just like TD. If he was finished right now, would he have a snowball's chance? Not so much.

Again, there are alot of valid points.

The only problem with stacking him up against the other top rb's stats during his time is you are forgetting a valuable factor! Playoffs. Post what he did in the playoffs vs what these guys did Barry/Marshall/Martin/Watters/Bettis/whover else you want to throw in. His three tremendous years are nothing compared to what he did in the playoffs! 19 TD's in 8 games on 204 carries for 1140 yds....that is incredible! Show me who has done anything close to that?!

Not even remotely close. The HOF is already filled with too many question marks ( like Lynn Swann ) that shot their wad for 2-3 seasons and then promptly disappeared into oblivion.

Longevity is part of the package.... and a couple decent SB games does NOT a HOF career make!

Davis also went south right after signing a monster contract which I always find a little suspicious.

So then.... NO WAY TD makes the HOF!
