RamslovaMartzhata 3 Posted July 25, 2006 Starting Left Tackle... ya that is important. Definitely something to keep an eye on (from fanball, can't post link) Raiders: Gallery placed on PUP list 07/25/06 12:34 AM THE NEWS Offensive tackle Robert Gallery was placed on the physically-unable-to-perform list Monday because of a quadriceps injury sustained last week, the Associated Press reported. Our View Gallery, the second overall pick in the 2004 draft, will be the Raiders' starting left tackle this season, though he could miss a good portion of training camp as a result of what the team is calling a muscle strain. His health is paramount to the success of both LaMont Jordan and Aaron Brooks.
murf74 461 Posted July 25, 2006 Don't worry yet, the PUP only helps the Raiders keep another body in camp until Gallery is ready.
cmh6476 1,024 Posted July 25, 2006 Don't worry yet, the PUP only helps the Raiders keep another body in camp until Gallery is ready. ummm, when you place a player on the PUP list I think they can't play until like week 6 or 8, at which time teams must decide to make room on the roster for them or place them on IR

So yeah, that's definitely something to consider with Jordan.
cmh6476 1,024 Posted July 25, 2006 Players on the PUP list can't play until week 7. so why is fanball saying he might miss a good portion of training camp while at the same time saying he's being placed on the PUP list? also, i think the team then has the option of reevaluating a player on the PUP list after week 6, and has until like week 8 or something to add the PUP player to the roster or place him on IR. or something like that... Ok, did some more research. If they're put on the PUP list before the season, they can be reinstated to the active roster at any time, but they can't practice with the team. It looks like only if the player is still on the PUP list once the season starts that they can't play until week 7.

akaoni 0 Posted July 25, 2006 I think that I read somewhere that Gallery will probably miss the first pre-season game, and that's only as a precaution. He should be back by the beginning of the season. Whether he can cut the mustard at L tackle this year is another argument...

JT 137 Posted July 25, 2006 He played on the right side last year, I was under the impression that they were moving him to the left side this year, but I could be mistaken... According to Sporting News & USA Today (this pre-injury, of course), the plan is to move him to the left side. I don't know who is to replace him on the other side, but seems to me I read something about Barry Sims (?) moving from G to T.
RamslovaMartzhata 3 Posted July 25, 2006 While the injury does not appear to be too serious.. it could easily be one of those that nags throughout the whole season. It's a shame, because so far Gallery has been a fairly big disappointment (IMHO), and I was interested to see what Shell could do with him being an old school OLine guy. That missed time in camp isn't going to allow Shell to get that opportunity. I was especially interested since he was reportedly moving back to his LT position where he was an absolute beast in college. Anyhow, the situation bears watching for now I suppose. Only if he's on the PUP list once they cut down to the final 53 man rosters, then the team can reevaluate the player after week 6.

As an U of Iowa graduate, I watched Gallery dominate for the Hawkeyes, but I always had some concerns about how well he'd be able to pass block in the NFL. So far, he hasn't been able to quell those concerns...

t.j 35 Posted July 25, 2006 Gallery sucked anyway. Every Raider fan I know feels this way. I spoke to my Raider-homer buddy this morning, and he thinks it'll be an improvement. I'm a Raiders fan, and I don't think Gallery sucks at all. The Raiders are sure as hell not better off without him. It's hard to look good as a tackle when you are on a bad team, especially if your QB can't make quick reads and is immobile. If you want to talk about a tackle who sucks, look at the guy he's replacing at LT, Barry Sims. (Sims was drafted as a guard and is better suited there.) To blame Gallery for the Raiders' offensive struggles in the last few years is extremely misguided. Plus, one of the positives of making a big investment in a tackle in the draft is that OL tend to have longer careers than other positions. He's only played two years, people. It seems like peoplea re acting like he was supposed to have written his ticket to the Hall of Fame by now just because he was the #2 overall pick. He will probably still be playing 10 years from now. If he were healthy he'd progress faster, but despite this setback I think he will play well this year and get better for many years to come. Yes, as a possible nagging injury, this is good news. Sit him out until after the first pre-season game, get him healthy for week #1! Also, I believe with Jordan's pass catching skills he has showcased, being down by 20 isn't a big problem, as they will send 3 deep to cover Moss, then dump it off to Jordan 4-5 times a game.
