beefcurtain 1 Posted July 28, 2006 I know this topic has been beaten to death but Barber still scored four touchdowns from the 5 yard line and closer last year. He might be replaced at the 1 and 2 yard lines but he will get plenty of chances from the 3 and farther. On the flip side, Portis scored five td's from within the five yard line last year. Washington's tightends combined for 8 td's from within the 5 yard line.
Jarvis Basnight 119 Posted July 28, 2006 beefcurtain. You just said these guys both got carries within the 5 yard line last year. Tiki scored 4 and Portis scored 5. And Washington tightends combined for 8 td's last year. beefcurtain......what the hell is your point? beefcurtain - I like Portis better than Barber this year if that helps. beefcurtain....as you've noticed I like typing your name. It makes me laugh. beefcurtain.
beefcurtain 1 Posted July 28, 2006 The point is that everyone knocks Tiki for being pulled at the goalline. BUT he still managed to score 4 td's from within the 5 yard line. Just one less than Portis. The point is everyone knocks Tiki for losing goalline carries to the fat dude from Southern Univ. BUT Portis lost 8 touchdowns inside the five to Wash TE's, not to mention Betts. Throw in the fact that Tiki gets more yards and is more likely to pull of the long run and Tiki is the stronger back. Betts only had 1 TD, though, so I don't think he merited a "not to mention" mention. And I don't agree that Tiki is more likely to pull off the long run. Tiki had four td's of more than 20 yards last year. Portis had two. But both are very capable of pulling of the long run.

esoitl 0 Posted July 29, 2006 2 of Tiki's 4 however were on 4th down because Jacobs didn't get in on 3 carries sure he can score but if Jacobs did his job he wouldnt have had some of those opportunities there will be a decline in his GL carries this year
Cuse9 131 Posted July 29, 2006 Tiki Barber - RB - Giants Tiki Barber said he would consider retirement after the 2006 season if the right job opportunity came along. Translation: Tiki really wants a network job. Jul. 29 - 12:05 am et Interesting stuff here....maybe this is his way of trying to get more TD's?
adam smitty 0 Posted July 29, 2006 Tiki's loss of a few GL carries isnt even the reason that I tend to shy away from him. I'd take Portis before him easily, and at least 5 or 6 other guys.
Big Blue 06 196 Posted July 29, 2006 Let me sum up all of these Tiki Barber threads. Tiki will be fine this year. He'll get about 2000 total yards and 10 TDs. Draft him in the 4 or 5 spot and you'll be happy with the result.

murf74 461 Posted July 29, 2006 I watched a lot of Giants games cause I had Tiki and Shockey. Tiki ran the ball a lot around the 5 yard line but he just happened to literally get stopped at the 1 yard line A LOT. I think it was kind of flukey a lot of the TDs that Jacobs got were literally a foot away from being Tikis the play before. Here are some examples: VS. 49ers 3-1-SF3 (14:09) T.Barber left tackle to SF 1 for 2 yards (D.Smith). 1-1-SF1 (13:28) E.Manning pass incomplete to J.Finn. 2-1-SF1 (13:23) B.Jacobs right guard for 1 yard, TOUCHDOWN. VS. Dallas 1-10-DAL 13 (11:31) 21-T.Barber up the middle to DAL 10 for 3 yards (58-S.Shanle, 96-M.Spears). 2-7-DAL 10 (10:52) 10-E.Manning pass to 21-T.Barber to DAL 1 for 9 yards (31-R.Williams, 56-B.James). P8 1-1-DAL 1 (10:06) 27-B.Jacobs up the middle for 1 yard, TOUCHDOWN. VS. NO 1-10-NO 10 (14:53) 21-T.Barber left guard to NO 3 for 7 yards (24-D.Smith, 57-C.Bockwoldt). 2-3-NO 3 (14:24) 21-T.Barber right guard to NO 1 for 2 yards (52-S.Hodge). 3-1-NO 1 (13:37) 27-B.Jacobs right guard for 1 yard, TOUCHDOWN VS. Washington 1-8-NYG 40 (14:09) 21-T.Barber left tackle to WAS 1 for 59 yards (25-R.Clark). R9 1-1-WAS 1 (13:18) 27-B.Jacobs left guard to WAS 3 for -2 yards (95-J.Salave'a). 2-3-WAS 3 (12:44) 27-B.Jacobs right tackle for 3 yards, TOUCHDOWN Jacobs last TD of the year came when NYG got field position at the 3 yard line in week #17 when Tiki was on the bench with over 200 yards rushing. Another one of Jacobs TDs came when Toomer caught the ball and was brought down just short of the goalline. So you can see above that 4 of Jacobs 7 TDs came because Tiki got it to the 1 yard line!!! The Brandon Jacobs affect was skewed because of very flukey situations of Tiki getting tackled inside the 1 yard line. Jacobs doesn't get the carry unless they are right there. Jacobs had 1 TD the last 8 games of the season and that happened to come in week #17 when Tiki was given the rest of the night off. Let's put this Jacobs thing in perspective shall we? xenophobe 1 Posted July 29, 2006 They bring in Jacobs closer than that -one the one, maybe 2. Generally speaking, anything off the goalline and Tiki remains because he's a better at pass protection and Jacobs is only in there to power it in -which you can't do from 5 yards out. i think Portis, Rudi, and Jackson are good for at least 13 but could easily get more, nor are they pulled at the GL None of them had that many last year.
