Why is everyone so high on Ben Watson?

The guy will be good, but Top 5 status I highly doubt. To name a few he will not out perform: Gates, Shockey, Gonzo, Witten, and Heap. Top 10 is likely, but top 5.... come on lets get real. Don't just support the guy because you drafted him.

 

I think that reasoning is backwards. People drafted him because they believe in him, not the other way around.

TE's who are #1 passing options in prolific offenses have proven very valuable in the past (See Gates/Gonzo). This guy is not your typical plodding TE. Linebackers will not be able to cover him. You will see Gates-like performances out of Mr. Watson...

Ben Watson got 7 targets on Sunday and had the highest yards per reception of any TE with more than 1 reception outside of Heath Miller. I'd say that's a nice start to the season, considering Tom Brady had perhaps his worst game of his career.

 

And...now Deion Branch is gone for good. Ben Watson is now going to be competing with Troy Brown, Reche Caldwell, Chad Jackson and some other scrubs for catches.

Watson will be a top tier TE by years end. But don't ignore Dan Graham either. This rumor that he's a blocking TE only is just that. A rumor. He got a red zone look last week and Brady just missed him and unless I'm mistaken I think he got several more looks.

 

I wouldn't write Graham off as a fill in during any week and that is why Watson won't be the top 2-3 TE's in the league. Graham's abililty will insure that Watson doesn't go off, but Watson's ability will insure that he has a solid year.

thanks for the bumps, but where are any TEs this year? I think Gates' numbers aren't much better than Watsons. He has 1 TD to Watson's 0, and less yards......

I still have him on my bench...it's still Brady spreading the ball like normal. He's 5th in recieving yards, 4th if you don't include Colston. One 2TD game and the FFtoday community will be saying that right back at you. They put up a solid showing against the Bengals, so I'm not sure if that means that NE has figured it out, but if they have, I'd expect all skill positions to see a rise in production...

Exactly. In my league, the top TE has been Winslow...w/228yds and 2TD.

 

Watson is 9th w/178yds and 0TD.

 

The three guys ranked just behind Watson? Shockey, Crumpler and Gates.
