Sho Nuff 720 Posted September 27, 2006 Oh, and everyone can stop saying the police reported it as a suicide - that was all BS based on the paramedic talking to the media. You are full of crap. The police report did say just that...it is now blacked out...and they are saying it is not accurate...but the original report said just what was reported about the "harm himself" comment. TO does not even deny it, only that he was not coherent enough to know what he was being asked. People are lobbying for the 911 tape as part of the freedom of information act...maybe that will shed some light on things as well.
BradtheBold 0 Posted September 27, 2006 Here is the transcript of the original non-blacked out report. Narrative from Dallas police report Narrative 01 ScreenOn 09/26/06 at approximately 7:51 p.m., RO/S were dispatched on a call by Dallas Fire and Rescue regarding comp attempting suicide by prescription pain medication. Upon arrival RO/S found comp being stabilized by DFD #703 in the ambulance. RO/S then responded to Baylor Hospital per DFD’s request for immediate transport and treatment. RP #1 was interviewed by R/OS at Baylor Hospital. RP stated that comp stated that he was depressed. RP noticed that comp’s prescription pain medication was empty and observed comp putting 2 pills in his mouth. RP attempted to put her fingers in comp’s mouth to retrieve the pills. RO/S were told by RP that the prescription of 40 pills that was filled on the 18th of September, and that comp had only taken 5 pills up to this date. During an interview of the comp, comp was asked if he had taken the remainder of the prescription, at which time the comp stated, “Yes”. On further interview of comp, comp was asked if he was attempting to harm himself, at which time the comp stated, “Yes.” Comp was treated by Baylor Medical staff for a drug overdose. Sgt. Spila #5251 and Duty Commander Ward were notified..NFI. Here is the press conference transcript: Transcript from T.O.'s press conferenceOWENS: First off, I want to thank God just for me being here. I want to apologize to the organization for this being a distraction. This is definitely an unfortunate situation.I'm just trying to be here just to clarify any of the rumors that's out there as far as me having a suicide attempt. (smiled) MEDIA: What's the truth? OWENS: There was no suicide attempt. I went home yesterday after I left the facility. I took a couple of pain pills, and then I had some treatment, I had a physician over treating my hand. And I think after that, I was kind of groggy a little bit, and kind of took some extra pills with my supplements. The 911 call with Kim, she made because there were some pills that I had separated and the bottle was on the table and it was empty. the rest of the pills were in a drawer, so I think she felt like that I had taken all of the pills and like I was non-responsive, and I think when she made that call, she made a call out of her judgment as far as my well-being. And I think the rumor of me taking 35 pills, I think is absurd. I don't think I'd be here if I had taken 35 pills. Just to dispel rumors that I got my stomach pumped, that's definitely untrue. MEDIA: Why did you say yes to police when you were asked if you were trying to harm yourself? OWENS: At this point, I really wasn't as coherent as they probably thought I was there were a number of people asking me a lot of questions, so I don't even really remember the police officer that was in there, more less the doctors that were in there. MEDIA: What was your condition at the time Kim called 911. OWENS: She made the call. She's here, she can probably better answer that question for you than I can. MEDIA: Do you remember anything from last night? OWENS: Once I took the pills, I had a physician to come over to kind of treat my hand I have a training table, and I was on that. I don't even remember her leaving. She came over around like 5 or so, and like I said, I don't know how long I was still sleeping on the table after she had gone. MEDIA: So you don't remember talking to the police? OWENS: Very, very vague MEDIA: You said you took extra pills, how many? OWENS: Like I said, it was with my supplements. I have a couple of bottles, where I have like two a day, six a day, I take those during the course of the day. It could have been anywhere from maybe two to three. MEDIA: Will you play on Sunday? OWENS: Yeah, I just finished working out outside, throwing with Drew and then obviously he had a press conference, and then Romo came out and threw with me. I feel very capable of going out there and playing on Sunday. That's my main goal. I'm here to try to help this team win. MEDIA: Are you depressed? OWENS: No, I'm not depressed by any means. I'm very happy to be here. My thing is I've come here to help this team get on a roll, get on track of getting into the playoffs and winning some ball games. MEDIA: Is there any reason you would say it? OWENS: Like I said, at this point, I was kind of out of it. I can barely even remember the doctors, more less the police officers that were asking me questions. I couldn't tell you if they were the EMT, or the police or the doctor. I'm really not sure. MEDIA: What did you take? OWENS: I had hydrocordone for my hand, and there were a number of supplements. I mean the list is too long for me to kind of like tell you exactly everything that I take, but all of them are natural supplements. That's it. it was just an allergic reaction. It's very unfortunate for the reports to go from an allergic reaction to a definite suicide attempt. Owen's publicist Kim Etheredge: I just wanted to dispel some of the reports on the police reports. One, that Terrell stated that he was trying to take his life ... that he was trying to do harm to himself. Terrell was not coherent to speak. The reason I called 911 is because he was not in his normal responsive state. He had had a long day. He came home, had some treatment and again, he takes many supplements. He's trying to get back on the field. He's taking a couple of extra supplements than he normally does, and he has some pain medication, and actually he was in a lot of pain when he home from work. MEDIA: The police report said you said he was depressed. ETHEREDGE: I don't know where that came from. They said I said Terrell was depressed? I did not say that, and I'm sitting here in front of you letting you know that I did not say Terrell was depressed, Terrell did not say he was depressed. There was a lot going on, just like the 911 call. Listen, when I see a man of his statute, not responsive. This is a very strong human being. and when I ask him a question, he's not responding and I know he's not feeling well, you know I use my judgment to call 911. It's not Terrell MEDIA: Are you upset at the report? Any recourse? ETHEREDGE: I'm just upset that I feel they take advantage of Terrell again, had this been someone else, this may not have happened but the bottom line is I called 911, Terrell was not feeling well. I'm happy that I'm sitting here before you guys today with Terrell because I made that call. He had an allergic reaction. Anything could have happened. MEDIA: Were you trying to get pills out of his mouth? ETHEREDGE: Again, Terrell was sitting at the table with me. and he was taking his supplements, and when I was asking him a question is when I didn't really get the response I was looking for. So I went over to him. If a pill had fallen .. I have to tell you guys, it's been a really long night; I can not remember everything. MEDIA: Did you take pills out of his mouth? ETHEREDGE: I don't take anything out of his mouth. MEDIA: How did police take advantage of him? ETHEREDGE: I just think, again, this is sad. Terrell had a reaction to different pills and just to state he was trying to commit suicide it's just, it's unfair. Terrell has 25 million reasons (emphasis) why he should be alive. OWENS AGAIN: I just want to sit up here and just give some thank yous out to the Dallas fire and rescue and the Dallas police department, and also the Baylor medical center for attending my situation. I definitely want to reach out to all my friends and family that reached out to me during this course with the last 24 hours. There were a number of people, some former teammates, and across the league that have reached out to see and care about my well-being. I just want to take that time to thank all the people that reached out to me. MEDIA: Will you practice Thursday? OWENS: I should.
Sho Nuff 720 Posted September 27, 2006 Either that or we're smart enough to recognize non-news wen we see it. Some people would prefer to believe the 2nd hand information of an ambulance driver over listening to the man himself. There were no "signs" - he took his suppliments and took his vicodin, and had an adverse reaction. It happens. It's happened to thousands of people. So because some d0uchebag in the media decided to run with the "TO Tried to commit suicide" headline, and every other media circuis latched onto it like a bulldog on a soup bone, we're all suppossed to show some deep concern for TO? I feel for TO that he had to go through this bullsh!t over a simple trip to the hospital to see why he wasn't feeling well after mixing suppliments & vicodin - otherwise, there's nothing to sweep under the rug. Did it ever occur to you that everything actually might be OK and that pretending isn't necessary? no, it probably didn't. I listen to what his publicist is quoted as saying. I have no problem believing TO...but if you do...then you have to acknowledge that he did not deny the "harm himself" comment or answer...only that he did not realize what he was saying or talking about at the time. Meaning, the paramedic report was accurate as to what was said...and you are simply full of ######. The media ran with what was reported by the police and his publicist. You can whine about it over and over again...but the media went with that information which to this point has been shown to be a correct recap of the events. Looks alot more like he is going through this because he took a poor mix of pills and perhaps even too many (by his own admission about taking a few more with the supplements)...and his publicist worried about how he was non responsive jumped to the worst conclusions (and that is what the media went with. You can go on and on about the media...but you keep excusing the woman who apparently started it all.

The information in all of this is very convoluted, and we can all choose to believe whatever we want because our opinions don't matter. The fact is, we really don't know what actually happened, though it's clear you've convinced yourself you do. My point is that I hope someone close to him has enough care to find out what's really going on with his best interest in mind. Maybe there was nothing to it. But this is not the sort of thing you sweep under the rug without being certain, because the consequences of being wrong can be tragic. There's a hell of a lot of people out there living their lives with extreme regret for having dismissed such things.
Gepetto 1,367 Posted September 27, 2006 So quick review: ESPN and/or other media: Lawrence Maroney was hurt week 1 and out. Kurt Warner is benched and Leinart will start week 4. Terrell Owens attempted suicide. And more that I'm forgetting. If Mort says it, don't believe it. I am so sick and tired of all of this speculation. The CNN and Yahoo headlines this morning said: Terrell Owens tried to Commit Suicide. According to CNN, Al Gore was elected President of the United States, too. Fockin' media. And what the media reported was what the police report initially stated went down...they reported the facts as they were known at the time. Blame those in this case that are feeding the information to the media. Blame the paramedic, the police report, his publicist...but its not the medias fault in this instance...nor about Warner/Leinart.

Dear d_o_u_c_h_b_a_g, The headline said he tried to commit suicide on CNN's website - that is irresponsible journalism. The media led with this story and it was talked about all day long...b/c they believe a police report...are you focking kidding me? Umm, if they are going to report with the headline that someone tried to commit suicide and it turns out that said person did not try to commit suicide.......oh forget it, you are too focking stupid to understand. I've had enough of stupid focks like you!
Phurfur 70 Posted September 27, 2006 This suicide sh1t? WTF...the guy doesn't deserve that. And yet he was a cordial as could be at the press conference. We have disagreed almost 100% on the TO issues over the last few months but I will say this "I agree with you 100%" He could not have handled the situation any better today and he does deserve better. I've had enough of stupid focks like you! Wow...yet another who cannot refute what people are saying...so they resort straight to insults. Funny, how someone so foolish to get facts completely wrong wishes to call someone else stupid. At the time, the police report was backing up their story that it was an attempted suicide. Funny, why would the media not believe a police report? When it turns out the man did say what was in the police report (later stating that he did not know what he was saying), there is nothing he can do to said papers. Too stupid....that seems to be you, not understanding what actually went on, but just wanting to complain about the media. We have disagreed almost 100% on the TO issues over the last few months but I will say this "I agree with you 100%" He could not have handled the situation any better today and he does deserve better. He definately handled himself well. Got to give him credit for that. His publicist however? It appears she was a huge part of the problem.

Those people are hanging on to a police report that was based on one persons misinformation. I don't think anyone should be sued...but I do wish we had more responsible journalism...how hard is it to actually search for the truth...not the better story. Sho Nuff 720 Posted September 28, 2006 And for those of you blaming the media...question for you. What would you do, if you were a reporter, and were handed a police report stating that there was a 911 call and paramedics were dispatched to...say...Lebron James' house. That he was slightly out of it, and when asked if he was trying to harm himself, he answered yes. Would you just sit there and say you do not believe it? Or would you go with that report? Because the fact remains, that 911 was called...that owens did answer yes to such a question...that his publicist was under the impression he took a bunch of pills...otherwise he would have had no reason to state that she thought so because they were in a drawer.
