Big_Pete 0 Posted November 10, 2006 he'll say something all wonderful and good natured, but we all know that it's for jersey sales. I think ESPN did a report on this a few months ago.
itsbigmoni 1 Posted November 10, 2006 I doubt he did it for jersey sales. How many more will he sell because of the switch? And then how much money would he even make compared to everything else he makes. He can't change just for sh!ts and giggles? I changed my favorite number from 21 to 2 for no reason. Maybe he got tired of the single didget or something.
gocolts 300 Posted November 10, 2006 The new number is him expressing he is 1 better than Jordan. I thought everyone knew this. It has been all over ESPN radio.

It's cause fans who buy jerseys want to have the correct number to go with the correct name! He clearly is trying to boost his image, and he probably thinks that if he's no longer the "recognizable" #8, everyone will forget that he cheated on his wife with a high schooler who couldn't keep her focking mouth shut. Big_Pete 0 Posted November 10, 2006 So the 2 most popular reasons people believe is that #24 is his old highschool number (also wore 33 cause of his dad) and the other is that it's his jersey #8 times the number of rings he as 3 (8x3=24). Other reasons are he chose the number 24 to show his hard work ethic which is 24 hours a day. Saying that he works 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Kobe and Odom is 24/7. Nah, i don't like shaq. I wear my Jason Kidd Dallas jersey to the games. What im saying is that he was going to sell a set number of jerseys regardless. Lets say he was going to sell one million jerseys. Now that he changed his jersey number he'll probably sell 1.25 mill or something. Hardcore fans buy jerseys every year. Poser fans will either not care they have an 8 or to show that they are true fans they might buy one. But in the increase in jersey sales isn't so great that it would motivate a Multi-Millionare to change his number. To most players their number is really important so they wouldn't trade the number in for a relatively small increase in Income. I say relatively small because in terms of NBA pay and endorsements, the $ they get from jersey sales probably doesn't add up to much. Even if he gets a dollar a jersey would $500,000 extra motivate him to change his number?

For a player to be able to say they have a top 10 or a top 5 or #1 selling jersey is a huge ego boost for them. I highly doubt it's ever about the money! CantTouchThis 23 Posted November 10, 2006 Um, i just heard a teammate wanted the number 8, and Kobe was all like "w/e, it's yours" and switch it to 24.
FranksTanks 0 Posted November 10, 2006 Let's let wikipidea explain: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_bryant Late in the season, it was reported that Bryant would change his jersey number from #8 to #24 at the start of the 2006-07 NBA season. #24 was Bryant's first high school number, before he switched to #33.[3] After the Lakers' season ended, Bryant said on TNT that he wanted #24 as a rookie, but it was unavailable, as was #33, retired with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He said the switch to 24 signified the start of the second half of his career. Bryant took number 8 after his favorite Italian league player, Mike D'Antoni. The Lakers guard grew up watching D'Antoni as a star point guard in the Italian league, where his father, "Jelly Bean" Bryant, also played.[4] Makes sense to me. eta: after reading it a second time, could it have anything to do with D'Antoni knocking him out of the playoffs? Maybe he said something to Kobe that made him change his mind about that number......etc..

ManUtd 0 Posted November 10, 2006 To keep track how many times he has sleep with women other than his wife. However, this is similiar to the RPMs in a car. You just multiple by 100 instead of a 1000. Hejust figured he needed to update it after 10 years.
