mmmmm...beer 692 Posted November 30, 2006 The bloodwood and the desert oak Holden wrecks and boiling diesels Steam in forty five degrees The time has come To say fairs fair To pay the rent To pay our share The time has come A facts a fact It belongs to them Lets give it back How can we dance when our earth is turning How do we sleep when our beds are burning Four wheels scare the cockatoos From kintore east to yuendemu The western desert lives and breathes In forty five degrees (live - on scream in blue The time has come A facts a fact It belongs to us all Lets give it back) I just rediscovered this song after hearing it on the 80's Channel on my Sirius radio... I forgot how focking GREATA this song is. Ahhhh found the video on YouTube.... you can find anything on that damned site. Midnight Oil's "Beds are Burning" I'm gonna have to say...... GREAT focking use of the Cowbell!
mmmmm...beer 692 Posted November 30, 2006 Researching Midnight Oil on wikpedia or whatever eventually led me to read about Austrailia's "Stolen Generation" about how aboriginal children were forcibly removed from their families from 1900-1970 in Australia. Very parallel to what happened to the natives here in our country during the same time periods... very good/sad reading. I guess that's my one new thing learned for the day. cgod 0 Posted November 30, 2006 OK, I am of the opinion that the lead singer of Midnight Oil went on to lead Right Said Fred and sang I'm Too Sexy after a few successful plastic surgeries improved his appearance. I have been known to make mistakes.........from time to time

BiPolarBear 476 Posted December 1, 2006 No love for midnight oil? I dig me some Oil! I tried to convince my band to play that song & think it is great. Without going to the web for info; I believe the lead singer is very tall and a lawyer. He also was an activist for aboriginal causes...thus the song. He won some election under the Labor party down there.
The Total Package 0 Posted December 1, 2006 Great band. There's much to like beyond the "hits" (Beds Are Burning, The Dead Heart, Blue Sky Mine, Forgotten Years, Truganini.) They didn't make a single bad album over the course of their career, and they were a tremendous live act.
