Are you skeptical of people who use dating services?

Recommended Posts

I'm skeptical to a point... I know alot of perfectly normal and cool chicks who use that... but still... kinda skeptical. The only good reason I can think of for using those is so that you dont have a "drunken night" type of hookup that leads nowhere.... These guys are probably just trying to take things slow and make sure they they click without the beer goggles on :dunno:

I put a magnifying lense over my webcam. All the chicks I chat with think I have a 36" cack as thick as a can of coke.

:pointstosky:

Is that a webcam designed by Hubble?

That works ok for little boys but priests lose interest after you become a teenager :pointstosky:

Hey, the truth is the truth.

Can you think of an easier way for a married woman to cheat and not get caught?

you think I'm the only one that's ever met one?

So long as she sets up meetings nowhere near her home and doesn't give out her home #, hubby will never find out :ninja:

I used to be a grade A scumbag, I could teach classes on how to cheat and get away with it.

Imagine what they think of your belly?

I'm not saying I don't think it happens, I just think its a pretty shiotty thing to do.

Not skeptical of people that use dating services, but more specifically skeptical of certain people in general. That's more based on their actions over time rather than anything else. I don't think there's much wrong with the method of using a dating service to meet others, but it's how once goes about it. Just as with anything, you have to be both open-minded to the possibilities for you to find fulfillment, but discerning of the opportunities that come your way that pose themselves as a chance to find it.

If you're going to fake who you are on a dating service--subtly or greatly--you probably do the same in life. Plus these services are businesses that are marketing their services in the best light possible. I have a friend that met someone through a dating service and they eventually married. But from what little I know about various services, you control the information about you which means you deal with the many of the same scenarios online as you do real life. Nothing is a cureall...

I've never used a dating service, but after drunk dialing half my phone book on Saturday night at 2AM, I think I may have to start... :dunno:

LMAO :dunno: Drunk dialing, I remember those days. Or do I?

I think its fair to assume that there is something wrong with you if you're outwardly attractive and need professional assistance to find a companion.

What about people who spend 80 hours a week at work?

Thanks, just trying to tell it like I see it, you know? I've met people in some very unusual ways as well as the most mundane circumstances. You could meet someone at work, online, in line at a grocery store, or at a bar and when it feels magical it doesn't matter. While in my mind's eye I'd prefer to control the setting as to how I'd meet that person, I believe you're fooling yourself if you believe you can do so. It's the circumstances and the people involved. And most of all, whether they both feel it and both have the confidence and desire to take the risk...

Some risks are good--it sometimes takes experience with the good and bad to figure out the difference. Plus it sometimes means understanding that the biggest risk can be to do nothing or be conservative and take a step back...

Ain't life fun? :dunno:

This probably explains why every single and looking person I know in NYC is using eHarmony, Match, etc, or shelling out $5K for a high end service. From what I hear Craig's List is cool for NSA but not much else (you get what you pay for).

My gf and I met 6+ years ago through a mutual friend (her cousin), but at the time we were both dating online. It was sort of like SNL back when it was good - 1/3 good, 1/3 meh, 1/3 WTFWTAA? - as opposed to now it's 8/9 suckass.

I was suprised most of the responses here were down on the idea. I guess I didn't realize there were still so many who attach a stigma to it since it's so prevalent. I'm talking about successful, good looking people who don't want to sh1t where they eat (e.g., date folks from work, the gym, whatevs).

No, I wouldn't be skeptical of someone using a dating service. It's caveat emptor no matter how you meet them.

I wasn't. Consider the audience. These are people who post on a message board a majority of the day at work, and likely still only spend 40 hours a week at work. Most of the people I know who use online dating services are extremely busy with work, so people who are busy or know a lot of people who are busy with work have just come to accept it (because there's a legitimate reason they have trouble meeting people). People who have 128 free hours a week shouldn't have any trouble dating, so they think anyone who needs to resort to online dating has something wrong with them.

Your premise is retarded.

Just because people post here from work doesn't mean they don't work long hours. It's 8:12 here and I've been at work since 06:30. I'm going to be here until 9 finishing up, and to stay sane I post here from time to time as a mental break.

And days I only work 9-10 hours, I still have a dog to take care of, chores to do, bills to pay, errands to run, dishes, dry cleaning, etc, etc, etc.

You judge everyone like you know something about us, but you don't know sh!t.

I'm not a big user of dating services or craig's list, but I sure don't judge anyone who is/does.

I agree with whoever it was that said that you've got to get with the times. I am dead serious in saying that ten-twenty years from now these types of services will be the absolute norm. People meeting and striking up a romantic interest some other way will be a complete novelty. I'm serious.

Maybe if you posted less and did your focking job you wouldn't work 12 hour days?

I work 8 hour days and that's it. if I need to work from home, I will, which I do. I will only work longer than 8 hours if something breaks and needs me.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. An exception does not make the rule. Since you're so smart, you should know that majority doesn't mean "everyone." I'd be willing to bet that, outside of time wasted here, very very few people work more than a 40-hour week.

Incidentally, you sort of proved my point. You said you don't judge anyone who uses dating services. Well, I stated that those who are busy have come to accept it. Thanks.
