meh...My hometown, Camden, NJ has only about 80,000 people and will have 40+ murders this year. By comparison, Baltimore would have to have 320. You slackers won't come close.

Might as well put a white picket fence around your whole 'city'.

But we have quite the streak going on.

Like 10+ years of 270-325.

Make Cal Ripken's streak all the more impressive.

There's much to be said for consistency. Keep up the good work.

It's funny, because the seedy, dangerous B'more of my youth is now the upscale shopping/tourist area. Bro lives in Lutherville, and I don't see the wretched underbelly of Charm City anymore.

I work in Lutherville & live in Sparks [Hunt Valley].

Black on black crime has been out of control forever in the City.

Ah... home sweet home. Remarkable though how confined it is to certain pockets of the city.

Do you think it's more of a life imitating art (the Wire) these days or more of the same old, same old crime?

umm.. same old, same old.

The POH-leece work rather hard to contain the crime to specific areas, almost as if they are trying to keep the upscale areas nice and safe for people to spend their money. There has been suspicion for years that the cops turn a blind eye to crime in those areas where the poor (see black) people mostly exist in order to gain assurances they wont infest the more affluent (see white) areas.

When Martin Omalley became mayor he tried to put a stop to all that BS, sent the cops into the war zones, and for those years the cops themselves were singled out as targets. The families that helped those cops were singled out, they were assasinated in large groups.

Eventually it became clear that what they effectively created was an urban militia of crafty drug dealers. They are well armed and organized, in many areas the police have no control at all....

As long as Ray is permitted to wander the streets, that number should continue to rise

I grew up young there. I won't even go back.

Except for Ravens games occasionally. And that area is not so bad.

What area?

Bush's fault.

But seriously, if you could pinpoint one common denominator in these areas what would it be?

Race, poverty, drugs, political leadership in the area?

What have we learned from our little 30+ year experiment of bending over backwards, cops being killed, free hand outs etc etc to help these communities? Why cant we stop this?
