Here comes Rudy....told ya

Recommended Posts

I love that Rudy is doing well in the polls...he is my clear favorite. I just hope that the undecided/crossover vote will be enough to offset the far-right who will take issue w/his stance on social issues and his personal life...presuming he gets the nomination, of course.

He will be our next Prez. Trust me. I just hope he's being honest with how he really feels about the 2nd amendment. We do not need another ounce of gun control in this country.

Do you really think he can overcome the anti-NY bias that exists in so much of the country? I grew up in Philly, went to school in Jersey, lived & worked several years in NYC. Last 20 years in Oklahoma. I'm still amazed at the backlash vs anything perceived to be NY in the south and southwest.

I don't remember where you live exactly, but here in NYC guns and the lax gun control laws in some Southern states are a big problem, as the guns purchased w/ease in those states have a nasty habit of ending up in the hands of violent criminals here. I'm pretty sure that this is a situation that Rudy is very familiar with.

I think that the job he did in the aftermath of 9/11 (especially compared w/the sh|t-your-pants approach of many "leaders" in other states :cough: Louisiana...New Orleans :cough:) will be enough to overcome that bias.

IMO, the biggest hurdles to Rudy are his stance on social issues when running as a Rep canidate. He's pro-choice, is on his 3rd marriage and lived (between marriages) at his gay buddy's apt. That just isn't going to sit well w/certain elements of the Rep party.

I live in the deep south and many people love Rudy down here. Anyone to the right of 100 on the IQ bell curve down here likes him. And there are MANY more in this area than the upper east coast "elites" give us credit for.

Like i said, "elites". You've proved your stereotype in a response that was attempting to be witty. How easy this has all become.

Even the right wing nutjobs can't agree on Rudy. The next election process should be awesome.

Coming from a guy who thinks 911 was an inside job? Go get your food stamps boy, the grown ups are having a discussion.

Hey, I tried to make it a legitimate, adult discussion of one of the Rep canidates, but folks from both sides of the aisle wouldn't have it.

You assume people are going to like Rudy more the more they see him - I suspect the opposite will be true.

It says that he doesn't share the exact same (religiously influenced?) set of morals as you do...much like the millions of people who are pro-choice in this country.

What does it say about you that you throw around terms like "morals" while simultaneously sitting in judgement of your fellow man? :pointstosky:

So you'd be down with a politician who says I personally hate killing five-year-olds, but I don't think we should jail people who do?

If you truly are a pro-life nut -- which I'm pretty sure you are -- how can you let this slide? How can you be so nonchalant about the killing of an innocent being?

Spin this for me, O'BozFan..

I doubt that my wife -- if I had one -- would be interested in a fat hillbilly....

But you never know?

ETA: I guess the question is: How can pro-life people support Guiliani at all?

See, now I considered your post to be pretty nonchalant about the subject too.

ETA: I guess the question is: How can pro-life people support Guiliani at all?

Because he makes a clear distinction between his personal beliefs and what he believes is right from a societal and Constitutional perspective.

I find that rather refreshing in a politician these days.

ETA: I have given up the fantasy that I will EVAH be able to vote for someone who shares every one of my beliefs on the pressing matters before them. As such, I could care less that he personally opposes abortion, as long as he recognizes that women should have the right to make such a decision for themselves, as opposed to the government and religions (to which the women in question may or may not belong) making such decisions for them.

Who said i was a pro-life nut? Im not even a republican. I started a lame flame post about it but I can see both sides. I do think abortion at a certain point is killing a human but to define that point is almost impossible. Im more pissed they give it the misnomer "Pro-Choice" when the woman had a choice not to throw her axe wound around.

If the choice is between a fiscal conservative (Rudy) who is tough on terror and against partial-birth abortions or a fiscal socialist (Hillary) who is weak on terror and for partial-birth abortion...

I'd say the "pro-life people" vote goes to Rudy.

Personally, I am pro-choice...yet consider myself a Republican, so I don't have the exact dilemma that you describe. However, as I said earlier, I think that it is a fanciful dream for people to expect to find someone to vote for, particularly at the national level, who is going to share your views on all of the pertinent topics that come up during an election.

For example, as I said, I consider myself to be a Republican. That is not b/c I support the views of the Christian right, but largely due to other things that I do share in common w/the stated Republican agenda. The fact of the matter is that I have a palpable disgust for all organized religion. That puts me at odds w/many Republicans and a few politicans that I have voted for in the past. When I vote I do so w/the mindset that I am going to vote for the person who I think best reflects my beliefs...I do not operate under the false assumption that I am voting for the person who completely reflects my beliefs.

Earlier in this post Boz stated his belief that we already have too many gun control laws in this country. I disagreed w/him. I also pointed out that, due to Rudy's experience as Mayor of NYC, where there is a problem w/guns being purchased in southern states w/gun laws that are more lax than NY's...only to show up in the hands of violent criminals in NYC, Rudy may not share Boz's position on this subject. Yet, even though Boz and I don't agree on this particular subject we both support Rudy.

Bring Evil Hitlery into this.

No, basically I'm talking about pro-lifers who support him in the Republican primary (and there are many) against other pro-lifers.

But make it into whatever you situation you want that can justify your immorality. If you believe that abortion is murder you shouldn't be supporting someone who is pro-choice.

Me, personally, if I believed that... I would choose a non-pro-murder choice (and there are many of them).

Which leads me to either surmise:

1) Pro-life Republicans don't believe what they say about abortion

2) Pro-life Republicans has piss-poor morals

Abortion is murder; doesn't matter if someone else feels that way too. By voting for Guiliani... you are voting for the murder of millions of innocent babies.

How do you live with yourself, Ty Cobb? :ninja:

I see it as voting for Guiliani you are voting for the "clean" inevitable killing of a baby as opposed to it being in a back ally where the woman is at risking death also. If they want to abort, they will find a way, while i do not totally agree with that choice i think not having the option to do it in a clinical environment is a step in the wrong direction of a supposed civilized society.

Apples to oranges it appears. You're talking primary, I'm talking general election.

I'll vote for Newt in the primary. But he prolly won't win, so I was just looking down the Rudy vs. Hillary road a bit.

BTW - I do believe all abortion, regardless of the circumstances, is murder. However, I'm not a single-issue voter. HTH.
