Joey Harrington, Falling fast

QB CANADA BOUND?

First, it was running back Ricky Williams. Now, it might be quarterback Joey Harrington.

A year after retaining the rights of the suspended running back to play in the Canadian Football League, the Toronto Argonauts have now shown similar interest in the team's ousted quarterback.

The Argos recently gained the exclusive rights to Harrington, meaning no other CFL team could sign the former Dolphins player unless the Argonauts decided not to. That's the same way the team ended up signing Williams last year.

Since getting cut by the Dolphins, Harrington has garnered little interest around the NFL, meaning the CFL soon could become a serious option.

''We're pretty set at that position right now,'' Argos GM Adam Rita told the Toronto Star. ``But he's someone we might want to look at down the road.

It sounds like they really don't need him either

i'm almost certain some NFL team would take him as a backup if his price is right. i know here in CAR it's pretty much him or Tuiasosopo from what the local rumors have been... i think i'd take Joey as a back up over Tui...

i'm sure with all the millions he has his confidence is just fine. rodgers is the one i'm really worried about. what with his annoiting as the next great one in green bay and now his name linked in trade talks to pot-smoking over-the-hill wrs. that's really got a fock a kid up.

poor guy

question: what kind of $$ do canadian football players make?

CFL teams have a 2007 salary cap of $4.05 million (I presume that's CAD - with the exhange rates nowaways, that's roughly $3.45 million USD). I think Ricky Ray (QB, Edmonton) has one of the highest salaries, at $450,000.

The majority of players in the CFL have second jobs...take that for an indication.

This thread's about Harrington

You are correct in your assertion that he has better stats in 6 years than a QB who is on the bench behind the greatest quarterback in the NFL for two years.

But that doesn't really say much and doesn't justify you slobbing his knob for five years.

Rodgers has nothing to do with this thread in the same way that the Detroit shock's WNBA success has nothing to do with the Lions one playoff victory over the last 50 years.

Feel free to start a thread about aaron rodgers or the detroit shock at any time.

Otherwise... please stay on topic. :dunno:

And how is correctly stating that Rodgers has yet to play much when compared with Joey...loving on him?

Your logic is amazing...I think its much easier to reason with my 2 year old son than it is to get through to you.

hey, at least the lions gave joey playing time before they dumped him. rodgers is apparently so awful the packers don't even have to see him in a game situation to know they should dump him for a pot-smoking wr. too bad pac man doesn't play for the raiders. they might be able to get a 2-fer for aaron.

maybe you should go play with your son and leave the board to the big boys :headbanger:

Yes, because he had that tough job of replacing Charlie Batch and beating out Mike McMahon...Im sure that was a much tougher task than replacing Favre.... Great comparison.

Your last line is funny, given how you left to tuck in your son...then got mad when people started mocking that...your hypocrisy shines through again.

not the point. the packers apparently realize rodgers is a bust without even playing him. if they didn't think so, they'd keep him and have him back up favre. favre isn't going to play forever and rodgers is a good bargain and has several years left on his rookie contract. why are there even rumors about getting rid of the guy over a 30-year-old pot-smoking wr with a huge contract?

<_< Ya, They have drafted a lot of bust (backup) quaterbacks over the last decade or so. Hasselback, Brunell, Warner (FA I believe), Brooks, etc .... Just imagine how good they would have been without wasting all that time and picks on bums. :ninja:

I think when we have an official geek meet in Vegas we should have Wrestlemania, geek style. We can get the boxing ring in one of the casino/hotels on a Tuesday (or whenever they're not using it). MDC could fight Toro, etc. It wouldn't be that hard to put together. But, for sure, there has to be a royal rumble with all the Norris clowns. There will be four guys in the ring to start and then every 60 seconds another clown comes running out of the dressing room, slides under the bottom rope, and starts helping his Norris partners beating some upper-midwest ass.

ATL. Not much of a point, anyway, b/c they were smart enough to see his latent talent and steal him from the Falcons, who thought they were set with Chris Miller and Billy Joe Tolliver

Chasers Dawg doesn't have much of a point, either, b/c all the guys he mentioned were when Ron Wolf was running the show. Hatley, Sherman, and Thompson haven't shown to have quite the same eye for young QB talent since.

yeah, and imagine how good they'd be if they kept some of that talent instead of trading hasselbeck and the #17 overall pick for the #10 overall pick for the privilege of drafting reynolds :P

or simply outright releasing some of the talent they drafted (brooks, warner--brunnell i don't know, but i suspect they got nothing more for him a bucket of chicken, if anything).

so yep, you could say as far as the packers are concerned those were BUST PICKS FOR THEM

next up--and to continue the proud tradition--aaron rodgers.

ouch. kinda walked head-first into that one, eh? don't sweat it. it happens.

 His confidence seemed pretty shattered the last few years Joey Checkdown was making all those millions. Now he has a resurgence, relatively-speaking, but gets cut and an exclusive rights deal with the CFL is his best option...I have to disagree that is a confidence-builder

Actually, I'd be surprised if Harrington doesn't end up on another NFL team. High pick QBs seem to get endless opportunities these days. If Tim Couch could still throw a ball further than 20 yards he'd probably be on a roster.

Now that would be a turn of events both Bears and Lions fans would enjoy.

Although last year Joey owned the Bears like Favre used to, so I should be careful what I wish for

Bust? Perhaps, though they might just realize they can get something of value for him now and still have time to draft a QB or like another already enough to be able to part with him.

Or it is just a rumor and he is not even relaly on the block.

Prove it? You are rambling incoherently again swamp. This spin, and your attempts are just laughable. You are a ridiculous hypocrite. Not long ago, you made a comment about tucking in your son...then you  when people made comments about that...saying it was getting too personal.

Fast forward to the current time, I make a comment about my son...now you are making comments about it...just as you cried about not long ago....hence...hypocrisy.

Have anything of actual substance to add to any of these threads? I doubt it...

The point was that they let those guys go...and in doing so, they were not considered busts.....yet, you want to do the same with Rodgers.

Walked right into it? Please...what happened after the picks is irrelevant.

Your claim was that trading him would indicate they think he is a bust.

Did trading Hasselbeck mean they thought he was a bust? or realized that he had value...?

NOTE: I also realize there is a difference between then, with a younger Favre and now...however, it does not change the fact that this reply by you was pretty much foolish and you missed his point completely....

I have said it time and time again, it is hilarious how every thread about the Lions, or former Lions...ends up with you replying to a Packer fan or Bear fan with something like...

Well the Packers/Bears are...or will need...or this guy is a bust (see Rodgers and Benson).

sign #232 that it's time to go hang out with your 2-year-old and take a break from the board: when you have to resort to changing a poster's post to try to win an argument

The argument was won when you could not muster anything but a poor attempt at an insult. The quote manip was just the easiest way of pointing that out.

No need to better to get the edge on a hypocritical child like you.

Lets look at the facts.

Yet another thread about a lion/former lion...and you bring up the Packers or a Packers player (sometimes you will do the opposite with say Walter and the Bears).

What Rodgers had to do with Joey, I have no clue.

Its pointed out that your points about Rodgers are pretty much idiotic as well...which is where you try to insult me. I point that out...and you are still here trying...without providing a lick of substance.

Just like every topic you are involved in....which is why I give my 2 year old son more credit than you...he at least stays on a point....oh, and he is out for breakfast with my wife and her sister...as Im leaving for a fantasy baseball draft soon.

I make a post about Joey not being really needed in the CFL and it turns into another Norris fight

It is still sad that the Liedowns #1 Qb has been relegated to the CFL, if he makes the cut.

I will assume that he will still end up in the NFL as a backup somewhere. Maybe he can beat out AJ Feely in Philly...then again maybe not

Joey harrington would make a good backup IMO. He certainly played ok for the Dolphins. Simply, he was overdrafted based on a good Senior season. He was a system QB, (All the Qb's in that system were overdrafted).

I would not mind if the Pats picked him up for a 3rd QB role.

Teams in the future would be smart to stay away from drafting QB's from systems that do not translate to NFL style: Dan McGwire, Harrington, Andre Ware, AKili Smith, David Klingler are examples. AThese guys were Danny Wueffel with better measurables.

this was posted 1 minute later...but not sure: does that mean it was rounded off up to the nearest minute? hmm...i have to go by the time stamp the system gave you. therefore, the "overs" won this bet.

the "under" bettors are still cleaning up at a 2-1 margin, though.

SwampDog101...the first day you learn that if any fan of an NFC North team comments about the Lions, their players, or even former players now it seems....he will immediately bring up something about that fan's team.

Typical guys to bring up...Benson/Bears; Ferguson/Packers, and now Rodgers/Packers.
