make me mona 0 Posted April 18, 2007 Do you use Flexcar or PhillyCarShare? How is it working for you?
MDC 7,333 Posted April 18, 2007 I use Philly Car Share and I have no complaints. There are two basic plans. The one I use is $6.90/hour and ten cents per mile with no monthly fees. This obviously wouldn't pay off for overnight trips so I still rent cars if I'm going out of town, but it's great for going to the grocery store or dept. stores on the weekends or visiting friends in the burbs. My GF lives in Philly but far enough away that a one-way cab ride is about $15 anyway so I mainly use it to see her during the week. I recently found a new apt. and reserved a pickup to move some furniture last weekend - same rate, $7/hr. There are cars all over the city parked in open lots so you can reserve one anytime online or over the phone and it takes no time - no paperwork or insurance to worry about and no waiting. If you have a car and need to extend a reservation you can do that over the phone in minutes. If you live in the city and don't want to deal with the expense of a car but want to have one handy it's really terrific, highly recommended.
MDC 7,333 Posted April 18, 2007 Before I moved to Philly I got a quote on car insurance here that was around $3,000/year and the cheapest lot I could find (there's no way I'm leaving a car on the street fulltime) was $150/month. Why would I pay around $450/month on a car, not to mention gas and routine maintenance, when I live a mile away from where I work and actually use a car once or twice per week? If throwing hundreds per month down the drain makes you feel like a big man knock yourself out. Personally I'd rather walk to work in 15 minutes, especially when I see gas prices around $3/hour and think of Toro sitting in his gas guzzling SUV lining bin Laden's pockets during his hourlong commute, only to come home to his apartment in the basement of his mother-in-law's suburban McMansion. City living is good.

That must be some new age pricing structure

MDC 7,333 Posted April 18, 2007 Isn't it about time you run crying from the board and "take a step back"? It's about time for board suicide #14.

Toro 1 Posted April 18, 2007 I'm 32 and the only women I can date are desperate single mothers who will do just about anything for some attention and help with their kids.

Snoopy1 0 Posted April 18, 2007 Wow--- Toro, seriously, you need to really evaluate your life if making fun of strangers on the internet is the way you build your self-esteem.

Snoopy1 0 Posted April 18, 2007 A man who doesn’t respect himself wastes his breath demanding that others respect him. How appropriate that is in your sig line. You should take it to heart.
Toro 1 Posted April 18, 2007 I like to make fun of people who insult others on the board by insulting them. What a hyprocrite.
Bert 1,128 Posted April 18, 2007 My GF is smoking hot and far from desperate - to the contrary I feel pretty lucky to have met her. Which is amazing considering you don't own your home or a car. You steal her mascara and can't even make a decent meal without the help of the geek board.

make me mona 0 Posted April 18, 2007 Thanks. I like their plans, but I like Flexcar too. I don't go many places when we are up there, so it's kind of ridiculous to drive two cars up everytime. This is a good option to think about. Thanks!
