American Idol Review

Recommended Posts

Country Night was less enthralling than Latin Night; not interested. What's next; Jazz Fushion, Adult Contempory or Emo Night? Just unleash the kids to sing what they want; instead of pigeonholing them to a style of music they're not adept with. At the risk of being branding a racist; does anybody know of a Black female Country music star? :crickets chirping:

* LaKisha's ham-fisted rendition of Jesus Take The Wheel continued her descent to oblivion; she had no clue how to tackle the song's roller coaster dynamic. This is my first season following AI, so I'm uncertain as to the number of potential rejects they start selecting live; but she ought to be among them Wednesday night. At least she finally wore something that covered herself up better, but those gold boots were a WTF? statement waiting to happen; the poor girl has all the fashion sense of Boy George. And yes, we all know you're a single mother by now; shut the fvck up about it.

* Comfortable with Country music, my ass; Chris was horrible. For the love of God, sing What Hurts The Most if you're covering something by a pretty boy Country band. Playing the Virginia Tech card was punk ass. Bless their souls, rest in peace, how tragic, my heart goes out to the families and all; but I'd like to forget about it for an hour if he doesn't mind. Arguing with Simon and defending his feeble, nasal voice didn't endear him either; the ride ends soon for Curious George.

* Whether I'm a fan or not, Country music is pretty cool; but channeling Aunt Jemima isn't. Since when is Bonnie Raitt's Something To Talk About a Country song? The Sanjaya bandwagon has started to careen out of control and whether his existence in the Final 7 is a product of teenage girls or anti-fans determined to sabotage results; a more deserving potential Idol is going to get fvcked over. Ryan and Simon bickering whether he sucks only fuels the fire and garners pity support.

* Blake finally butted heads with a style of music he's uncomfortable with; but that didn't seem to deter Paula from wanting to blow him while onstage. Does Randy start talking without saying something like "Yo dawg, check it out..."? Nonetheless, Blake will be back next week.

* The ONE week I wish Phil would cover that giant pen!s that passes for his noggin with a dorky looking lid, he lets me down. A black cowboy hat would've gone great with his outfit last night. On a side note, few contestants went for the Country look except for jeans and Melinda's potato sack top; more on that later. Phil has been flirting with the Bottom 3 since last month; but he rallied Tuesday night and even Simon admired his performance.

* The outfit that Aphrodite, I mean Jordin, had on was another head scratcher; but she nailed the song. OK, now I can name a female Black Country singer...sort of. I wouldn't be surprised to see her and Melinda in the Final 2.

* Melinda's performances are starting to look like she's a returning championing doing a guest appearance; she's that impressive. Morphing Soul, Blues, Country, R&B and Pop music into one dynamite package is a daunting task, but she pulled it off last night. Egad, did she even have time to take a breath during Trouble Is A Woman? I could have done without that blouse, but everything else was perfection.

while i agree with everything you said, I'd almost rather Sanjaya win than Melinda. she's a damn professional singer already. she has money, a stylist, and a publicist. If she couldn't make it on her own with all that then why would i vote for her. additionally this is/was supposed to be an armature competition, her presence her undermines the hole character of the show in my opinion. if they want to start taking professional studio unknowns and making them famous I'm all for that, but don't throw a trained pro in with a bunch of rookies and act like you are comparing apples and apples.

Plenty of times; I get hate mail from the male viewers of AI on a weekly basis.

Did she fail on account of looking like she ran into a wall... repeatedly

I'm joking. My girlfriend (honest) got me interested in AI at the beginning of March and I take notes during the broadcasts. It's interesting, to me at least, seeing if my observations and critique are on target. So far, so good; Stephanie was the only contestant so far that I felt got the boot too early.

1. Melinda was excellant as always

2. Jordin had a big night

3. Phil needed this performance though it might be too late

4. Blake let out the biggest sigh of relief when this was over

5. I CAN"T STAND LAKISHA

6. Finally they slammed Chris for sucking. Where was that the past few weeks when he also sucked.

7. Let it end!

Read a little about her, she's been making her living as a backup singer for quite a few artists for a number of years. She's a professional singer & it's not surprising that's she head & shoulders above everyone else.
