Paul Crewe in The Longest Yard. It was the perfect role for him. The character was the right mix of cheekiness and grit. Right up Burt's wheelhouse at the time.

I wavered between that one and Bandit.

Well if you put it that way, but Jackie Gleason goes along way to overcome the Trans Am deficit.

One of the great accomplishments Reynolds' achieved with his portrayal of Paul Crewe was appearing PLAUSIBLE as a 5' 10" former NFL QB; how many people realize he's not any taller than Doug Flutie? He was thoroughly believable as a Kenny Stableresque, devil-may-care, riverboat gambler, tough as nails good ole boy without playing Crewe as a caricature.

Didn't he play QB at Florida State? :dunno:

I'm suprised more people didn't vote deliverance.

I thought that was a great movie.

Picking the role, not the movie itself.

Disagree to an extent. Yes, he pulled it off. Yes, it was a bad-axx movie. But nobody in their right mind saw him and thought - "Wow, he definitely COULD be an ex-NFL baller". They said "Hey - it's Burt Reynolds - I like him!".

Big difference. He basically played himself. Out of all his roles, that might be the most popular, but damn sure not his best work IMHO.
