*** '07 Player Projections By NFL Team ***

Recommended Posts

To prepare FFTodayers for the upcoming ’07 season, starting 5/14 will post threads listing offensive players by NFL team and invite posters to attach projections to each offensive player.

Posting of just commentary on one or mutliple players, instead of projections is welcomed and encouraged as well.

Will post 3 team threads per week (2 during 4th of July week) alphabetically by team city, so will have all 32 NFL teams posted before August 1st.

Through beginning of FF season will hopefully have this thread pinned as an ‘Archives’ thread, so will have opportunity to post replies for any previous team at any time.

Notes:

QB RGrossman: Will be 2nd year as starter, ’06 first year played all 16 games

RB CBenson: Will be 3rd year

WR MMuhammad: Will be 12th season (34 years old)

Key Questions For '07 Season:

QB Rgrossman: Will he be starter? If so, total confidence or short leash?

QB BGriese: Could he immediately/eventually get significant playing time?Earn starting job?

RBs: Can CBenson carry the load?

WRs: Can BBerrian step up more in year 4? How much does MMuhammad have left? Can DHester contribute significantly as a WR?

RBs: What will be carry(overall/rz/gl)/rec distribution between TJones and CBenson?

I don't know, I can forsee Benson getting more carries this year and TJones getting traded. Maybe the Jets would be a good fit... nah, that's just crazy talk.

RBs - Benson is obviously the feature, so he should go higher than any Bear back since quite a while. He's weak in blocking and pass receiving, so he could be pulled on 3rd and long. One area to watch through training camps is how he progresses in these areas and that will translate to more 3rd downs on the field if he improves. He should get to 1300 yds on the ground behind the strong line with another 150 through the air.

1300/150, 10 TDs

Wolfe is the 3rd down guy, but more as a pass receiver in the flat. Peterson is the best blocker of the 3 and the guy that starts should Benson get hurt.

Peterson: 450/100/4

Wolfe: 250/200/2

WRs - Berrian is the best wr option for FF and should get into the top 20 overall. He should have some huge games and injurys are the main concern. Lots of long TDs if Grossman can lead him properly - see SB INT. Muhammed is getting grey and is more of a first down player now. A sol,id wr, but not much FF value though he should get his share of TDs. After these two, the 3rd wr will be either Bradley or you could take a late round flyer on hester. Rashied Davis is a slot guy that will get the odd catch, but little or no FF upside.

Berrian 65/1050/7

Muhammed 55/725/6

Bradley 40/580/4

Hester 35/450/3

Davis 20/200/0

TEs - Clark should still get the bulk of the stats at TE for this year. Olsen is a flashy pick but needs to pick up the blocking game before he sees significant playing time. The Bears need a strong blocking TE to assist in the run game. Olsen will show flashes of skill, but shouldnt be drafted this year.

Clark 45/500/4

Olsen 20/280/1

QBs - The biggest question mark. This is obviously Grossman's make or break year. The Bears are stubborn with their loyalty, but he has to avoid the mistakes and the brutal stinker games. He wont get 20 INTs again. He will be sat down if he approaches that many. While he has been in the league awhile, he completed his first full season of starts with roller coaster results. With very little confidence, I'll post some numbers, but it could be Griese that ends up getting half of them.

3450 yds, 24 Tds, 15 Ints

D/ST - still the best bet to lead in FF pts. The D is faster and should have a better pass rush / sack total. The turnovers are always there and they have had 8, 5 and 7 Tds the past 3 years. I wouldnt draft them high. Someone will get them in the 8th round, so let them pass unless they slip, but they should be the top team on most draft boards.

Other than Grossman's numbers, I agree with your prognosis. Even on Grossman I'm not sure I totally disagree, though I might think of your numbers as his upper bound. With them facing some tough non-divisional road games, I'm thinking closer to the 20 TD, 3200 yd mark.

I totally agree with you on Benson though - I think 1300 yds/10 TD on the ground is realistic (as you said, they still have a strong O-line).

Bears | Grossman working on improving fundamentals

Thu, 24 May 2007 18:32:18 -0700

Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports Chicago Bears QB Rex Grossman is focusing on improving his fundamentals and techniques this offseason. Throughout the team's offseason program, Grossman has worked with quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton on stepping up in the pocket, which should result in stronger and more accurate throws.

And don't forget, Grossman is learning the shotgun aswell. I can't wait til the season begins.
