Is there a new virus going around?

I am getting about 10 e-mails a day that have no content, just a zip file attachment. Typically, it will be titled something like Info.zip. They are from all over the world. Of course, I never open them but it's getting pretty annoying.

Over teh last few weeks, I've been getting a bunch of emails saying that someone sent me a greeting card. A few have been made to look like reputable websites, like hallmark.com or Greetingcards.com.

 

I opened the first one and my virus protection went nuts.

I'm getting the same for the .zip (sometimes it's a .pdf) and they are getting through our corporate spam filters. The greeting cards ones are getting stopped by our spam filters. At the home e-mail, these haven't showed up...yet.

Lot's of mine have the .pdf as well. And, I did open one of the greeting card ones a while ago as it looked very real and I have a friend who sends me e-cards frequently.

PDF spam is the latest preferred method of spammers to bypass filters. If you google "pdf spam" you will find recent articles about how pdf spam is replacing traditional spam. If you open those attachments, you will simply find the same Viagra or stock tip that you had before.

To be fair, I've made a killing on those stock tips. Highly recommended
