Sorry, no help here. "The Region" (NW Indiana) offers affordable housing yet long commutes.

Stay away from Gary

I'm the exact opposite of you, I'd rather live in a studio/efficiency in the heart of Chicago then live in a mansion in the burbs. Good luck.

I have a realtor I can put you in contact w/ if you would like

It's a good job, not a GREAT JOB. Very expensive to live in the city with a wife and 2 daughters. I would like a yard for the girls.

I may take you up on that.

I live in an expensive suburb (Long Grove) Northwest of Chicago. I lived in the City for a few years before getting married. I grew up in Boston. Chicago is a great city. much better than Cleveland.

First off, where would you be working? In Chicago or in the burbs? Chicago has a great train system to the burbs (Metrarail.com). What is your budget for a home?

The northern suburbs are the most expensive. The western sububs in Dupage County are a little cheaper than the northern ones and the southern Suburbs are the cheapest. I would probably tell you too look in the western burbs like Naperville, Downers Grove, Carroll Stream or Glen Ellyn. They have good schools and you may be able to find something reasonable although most of the housing is expensive.

Naperville is a very large suburb with good trains to the City. You may be able to find a townhome in the $200,000 range.

I don't believe I've ever heard the words safe and clean used in any sentence to describe the holes that are cleveland and pittsburgh

I put out a post early this morning about possible Chicago suburbs in the North , West and South, but for some reason it was deleted. Not sure why because there was nothing bad about it.....or was it a different thread about the same subject?
