phillybear 366 Posted September 15, 2007 Whatup guys? I am new to these boards. Joined cuz I wanted to read up on some Fantasy Football sleeper info. and was stoked to see a wagering thread. I began betting on sports last year and it was pretty solid I must say...I quickly found out that college ball is alot easier to predict than NFL... Anyways a few questions from the newbie: 1- Where are you guys getting the %'s? I've always wanted access to that type of information to find out what the betting public is doing. 2- Who is this Dr. Bob? He seems to get alot of respect around here 3- How do you guys like the Pittsburgh/MichST game? I'm thinking of taking the points +11.5 Pitt. I'm thinking this is going to be a close game and possibly come down to a FG. 4- Also Auburn...the spread is -12.5 but I got a teaser going that makes it -6.5...feeling good about that. I typically like to make teasers on my favorite games of the week...try and turn the odds in my favor. Using Sportsbooks.com this year instead of bodog...was not happy with the sketchy NUCharge account. Anyways, looking forward to comparing picks and reading up on what you guys have to say! Good luck this saturday. 1. For me, sportsinsights.com and sign up for the free info. They give you an average of the action the offshore books take on action, which is more than Vegas, since Vegas has limits on how much you can bet on games. 2. Dr Bob is a handicapper that sells picks, that if you surf the net, you can get for free. He has been winning year after year for a while, and a bunch of people have suddenly discovered his success. Whenever he releases his picks, which is 5:45 PM EST on Thursdays this year in college football, the lines move several points right away. My attachment is that I enjoy reading his writeups on games, and tend to agree with much of what he posts about games. 3. Pitt looks like a possible play. I would feel uncomfortable laying the points in that game. The problem is that QB Palko is gone, and Wanny is still the coach. Yuck. Not a fan of Wannstedt. 4. Auburn might very well cover that. I took Miss St plus the points since I am not a believer in Auburn this year. And the loss to South Florida has a chance of completely demoralizing them. phillybear 366 Posted September 15, 2007 I find it hard to take dog bets like you do, but then you pull this out of your arse. Not sure I will follow, but I sure as heck will look harder from now on when you point. Nice call. Dogs are my bread and butter. Once you embrace betting on dogs, the betting on college football becomes more interesting. And easier.
phillybear 366 Posted September 15, 2007 Hey guys, a little help please. I'm making a 6PT 8 team teaser tonight. (Might consider 7pter for usc/texas + any others it'd help) Here are the obvious locks IMO: USC -3.5 USC/Nebraska over 45.5 KANSAS -19 UCLA -9.5 TEXAS -11 So I need 3 of the following: Arkansas +9 OR Alabama +3 (I might want to stay away from this one because I'm really not convinced either way) Pittsburgh +18.5 BostonCollege +12.5 BoiseST -6 Mich/ND under 50 Louisville +0.5 Louisville/Kentucky over 71 IowaState +23.5 If you guys have any other suggestions (picks) that you think the 6 points could help with let me know! Teasers are hard to cash. You are probably better off betting the games straight up. I have done virtually zero teasers in the last 20 years. When you are a bookie, you love it when people call in teasers. They are your typical sucker bet. Good luck.

(4:00 EST) Saskatchewan for 2 units (7:00 EST) Hamilton for 2 units (10:00 EST) Toronto for 3 units Sask is the best defensive team in the CFL, and blew out Calgary by 41 points earlier this year. I'll take the points. There is excitement around Hamilton after signing former CFL star QB Casey Printers, who will start this week. Hamilton's only win was a home blow out over this same Winnipeg team. Winny on a letdown, beatin Sask last week. Surging Toronto is 4-0 with QB Micheal Bishop, 0-6 without. Bishop is starting for them again. Toronto lost 24-22 to BC first game of the year, and is looking for revenge. BC still starting 3rd string QB Jarius Jackson this week. Chronic Husker 85 Posted September 15, 2007 Don't really like you guys putting money on Nebraska and the over vs. USC. Booty will take our defense apart and I don't see our defense stopping them. Nebraska has all new starters on the defensive line. The only guy who has looked like a player is Suh on the line. Our DEs are way undersized to be playing against a team with bluechips. Nebraska lost every starter on the line from last year. Every one. LBs are the strength of the defense. Octavien is a pure athlete and the other guys have been there for a couple years. The LBs are probably equal to the players on USC they'll be going up against. But our secondary is going to get worked. The announcers are sure to mention Tierre Green being Ahman's cousin about 30 times. He doesn't have nearly the ability of Ahman. Our best corner is an NFL prospect, Zach Bowman. He wasn't even starting last week due to injury - but still played better than the other guys. I said at thedanzone that Andre Jones (#25) is going to get burned and burned a lot. He got burned last year against USC. He got burned last week against Wake. I'm sure USC is game planning to abuse him all night. For a reason I cannot fathom, Nebraska puts this guy on an island in man coverage. Last week, Wake had two deep balls thrown where there wasn't a defender within 15 yards. If their WR doesn't flat out drop the first deep ball, Wake probably wins the game. Nebraska couldn't run the ball against Wake. Not going to be able to run against USC, either. Lucky has looked solid, but very pedestrian. I have no idea why Cody Glenn is not getting any PT, but he is Nebraska's power back. The guy that has been getting PT is Castille. When you see him, you'll immediately think Brandon Jacobs. Tall and 250. After only two games, he might already be our best back. Very athletic for his size and will definitely get work. But the line couldn't open any holes last week so I see Nebraska in for a long night on offense. The one thing I hope to see is Ganz come in at QB and run the option. He ran it once against Nevada in the opener and it looked very crisp. Nebraska would be insane not to throw a different look at USC and run the option a few times in the first quarter to see how the Trojans react. I can't believe Callahan didn't run it a few times against Wake in such a tight game. Nebraska's best offensive player is Maurice Purify. 6'4" and athletic. Only guy to score in last year's game for Nebraska. Nebraska is deep at WR but outside of Purify, USC shouldn't have any matchup problems. Nunn is probably the second best WR and is notorious for dropping passes. The one thing that was painfully obvious last week was Keller's horrible accuracy. He overthrew 10 out patterns by 10 yards. I mean, he wasn't even close. He has a quick release when he can actually find a WR but holds the ball way too long in the pocket and reminds me of Culpepper like that. His release is nothing you've ever seen before. My brother says he throws like a girl. You'll see what he means when you see Nebraska's first possession. For Nebraska to compete, they'll need basically everything fall their way. Need Keller to be perfect. Need to establish the run. Need no mistakes in a pretty average kicking game. Need to stop the run and need the secondary to not fall apart. I'll be rooting for my boys but we lost by 18 last year and don't have nearly the same team. Lost our D line (including the 13th player taken in the draft), lost our best RB, lost a returning starter at QB. Combine that with the fact that USC returns 10 starters on a defense that shut us down when our offense was better than this year's version and the prospects don't look good. Our D was winded in the second half against Wake with a lot of hands on hips. I really, really hope I'm wrong but see this game evolving into a disaster. Bouve-Rules 0 Posted September 15, 2007 Nice day yesterday for me. Played Troy State +10.5, included them in a small parlay with today's games and hit a prop bet on the game as well. Bodog had Troy at +170 as the first team to score. Figured there was enough value there to throw a few dollars at that and it hit... but I digress. To be clear, my card today only includes games on PB's card - the guy is too hot not to listen to. So basically, I took all his plays (regardless of weighting) and chose the ones I like as well. CMU +22.5 - Go Chips - Anti Purdue! SMU +3 North Carolina -3 Florida Atlantic +7 - Anti Gopher play Iowa St +17.5 - Anti Iowa play Washington +3.5 - Anti OSU play Sticking with an earlier comment I made - the Big Ten has definately started out 2007 sluggish - especially ATS. I'm riding that trend until it bucks me.

UNCDave 0 Posted September 15, 2007 NCAA 6-6-0 (-2.51 U) CFL 0-1-0 (-2 U) Ok, time to break the 3-3 trend I've been having in college so far and make some money. I'm avoiding 4 plays this weekend because philly is on the other side of them, and I dont need to deal with that in 4 games, just too much stress. So I'll stick with my plays that it seems like philly actually agreed with. Miami(OH) +7 (1 U to win .91) Miami(OH) ML +250 (1 U to win 2.5) - I don't know how everyone else is seeing this game, but I see it being decided by a late FG, and I want to ride the ML, think it will pay off today. UNC -3 (1 U to win .91) - UVa isn't as good as ECU, and they may not even be as good as JMU, we shall see. BC +6.5 (1 U to win .91) - This one should be close, since it's a possible preview of ACC Championship. UCLA -16 (1 U to win .91) - No idea about this game, but everything I've read seems to say UCLA in a blowout, let's hope so. 3 Team Parlay (1 U to win 6) - UCLA -16, Ky +5.5, Miami(OH) +7 Lots of small plays today, but hopefully enough to turn me back to the positive side. As long as my parlay hits im up minimum of 4.8 U, so thats what I'm gonna be watching, GL everyone.

phillybear 366 Posted September 15, 2007 Southern Mississippi (-1.5) for 2 unitsSMU (+3) for 3 units any reasoning on these bets, I know nothing about them other than SMU sux. I guess I fell asleep. Let's get back to posting. So Miss is a veteran squad, especially on offense and is playing with revenge for a last second loss to East Carolina last year. East Carolina is a below average team that hung around with what looks like an overrated Virg Tech team, and then had to pull out a 3 point win over North Carolina. So Miss has dominated this series for 5 straight wins before last years loss to EC. The problem is that veteran solid QB James Pinkney is gone, replaced oddly enough with another QB by the name of Pinkney. The difference maker is that So Miss is a good runing team, and East Carolina can't run even a little bit. SMU showed heart, coming from behind vs North Texas last week, a week after getting buried by Texas Tech. SMU is a pretty good team, finally emerging. SMU QB Willis is solid, going 30-42 last week. SMU won 55-9 vs Ark St last year, and basically, not enough has changed between these two teams to warrant this ridiculous line other than Ark St playing Texas close. The line is out of whack. SMU will win.

I can't help but recall how Nebraska played #5 ranked Texas tough at home last year, losing by 2 points. I had Nebraska in that game. Throw the stats out the window. Nebraska is tought at home. Nebraska has a look ahead game last week vs Wake, hell, I had Wake in that game, and watched most of it. Nebraska was easily the best team on that field, but Wake tends to throw you off your game with play calling. Wake specializes in misdirection. I think Nebraska hangs around all game long in a revenge spot. You don't have to be the best team, just good enough to cover. Just look at Troy last night. Nebrasks took apart a pretty solid Nevada team in their first game 52-10, and that showed me a lot.
phillybear 366 Posted September 15, 2007 Philly any thought on Penn state ub. I know ub looked decent last week over Temple but can they really hang with a top team? I can never tell if Joe Pa wants to run up a score of not. There is evidence to support both. Buffalo's QB is completing around 73% of his passes, so that is something to consider. Teams tend to come out a bit flat after a win over Notre Dame, no matter if they are down. Notre Dame is still Notre Dame. Penn St might sleep walk through the game. If they care, they could win by 40, as I think Penn St could run the table this year. But Buffalo hung around with Rutgers, covering the second half, and could do the same today. BC is still underrated based on the line, and Matt Ryan is a top notch QB for BC. Close game. Louisville's defense is horrid, after watching Midd Tenn St shred them. Kentucky has a balanced potent offense that could score on every possession. Kentucky has the better defense. With a home dog with a better defense and equal offense, it's an automatic play for me. Iowa's offense is brutal, and I don't know if they can score 17 points for the whole game. Iowa St outgained their first couple of opponents, but had trouble with turnovers. If they hang onto the ball, they will be in a close game. Iowas 0-7 ATS as road favorites. Early on, Washington might be a team I ride all year. Locker is a very good QB for this stage on his college career. Ohio St has problems on offense. Washington is 3-1 SU as a home dog the last 2 years. Washington is still underrated, Ohio St overrated based on reputation. Ohio St is rebuilding, as should not be favored in this game.
