Gepetto 1,362 Posted October 6, 2007 OK, four weeks have come and gone in the NFL season, 1/4th of the season. For the next 12 games who do you project as the top 5 or so receivers: ...in no particular order (I'll post mine later once I think it through): Steve Smith Terrell Owens Chad Johnson Randy Moss Reggie Wayne Marvin Harrison Roy Williams At the start of the season I had Steve Smith, Chad Johnson, T.O., Marvin and Roy Williams ranked highest. I'm thinking maybe I should move T.O. ahead of Steve Smith, and Randy Moss is now in the disucssion...

Guest _my_2_cents_ Posted October 6, 2007 TJ Housh left off both lists? He has more targets than anyone in the NFL, more receptions than anyone in the NFL and is 2nd in receiving TDs to Randy Moss. He has a great QB throwing to him, and a "#1" WR on the opposite side of the field drawing the double, so I see no reason for him to take a step back at any point. In fact, when Henry comes back from suspension I expect him to get open deep more frequently. How he's still under the radar and being left out of the top 10 by fantasy footballers is a mystery. ETA: wtg de novo - at least one person got it right.
Me_2006 14 Posted October 6, 2007 Moss TO ROY Steve Smith Housh If Delhomme continues to suck ass, replace Smith with either Wayne, 85, or whichever of Fitzy/Boldin you prefer (Warner has made them both look like we're used to seeing again, they should have a huge year if he keeps the job.) HenryChinaski 1 Posted October 6, 2007 Everyone being so down on Steve Smith is starting to worry me. I know how horrid the offense has looked - but it's not that hard to just throw the ball in Steve Smith's direction. I gotta imagine that David Carr will figure this out - or Carolina will find someone that can. Delhomme is not a great QB by any means, Smith makes him and his stats alot better than he actually is. I don't see why David Carr can't do the same things than Delhomme can. Seriously. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, but I really think that he will figure it out this week. Look at how easy Carolina's schedule is against the pass this year - it's a cakewalk. If David Carr can't get it going against New Orleans this week - then he doesn't belong on a NFL roster. As for my Top 5.. If I were drafting today: Randy Moss Steve Smith Terrell Owens Chad Johnson Roy Williams ehh.. The next 5: Reggie Wayne TJ Housh Marvin Harrison Plaxico Burress Larry Fitzgerald
Guest _my_2_cents_ Posted October 6, 2007 I gotta imagine that David Carr will figure this out I am not as optimistic. People have been saying this about Carr since he came into the league. I wouldn't hold my breath for him "figuring it out". I think Steve Smith's value took a huge hit the moment Delhome went down.

I think Steve Smith's value took a huge hit the moment Delhome went down. I know what you're saying.. But I have to imagine it's not that difficult for an NFL QB to get the ball to Steve Smith. Let's be honest, Delhomme wasn't doing the hard part. He just threw the ball up for Smith. Steve Smith handled most of the work after the catch. I know Delhomme hit Smith on the occasional bomb, but for the most part Steve Smith get's his numbers with YAC. If David Carr can't get the ball in Smith's hands, then I have to imagine that Carolina will make a change. They will send a draft pick to someone, or whatever they need to do. But an NFL QB that continues to not be able to get the ball in one of the best playmakers in NFL's hands.. Well they would have to do something about it. JTB 52 Posted October 6, 2007 Where's the Driver love? With the "Gun Slinger" having a good start Driver could be a top 5 at year end.
HenryChinaski 1 Posted October 6, 2007 Where's the Driver love? With the "Gun Slinger" having a good start Driver could be a top 5 at year end. Yeah.. I thought about adding him. He is close, there are alot of good WRs this year, the position seems deeper than ever. Especially @ the top.

ETA: wtg de novo - at least one person got it right. It was top 5 not top 10. I like Housh a lot and he's right up there but Id take those other guys over him. I expect Housh's targets and numbers to do down when C. Henry comes back and/if Rudi and the running game get going. As for Steve Smith I kinda agree with you. I think its now clear that Carr holds the ball WAY too long and Carolina is so damn inconsistent. I had him as my #1 WR in the pre-season and he's still a beast. But I would rank him toward the bottom of the top 10 going forward.
HenryChinaski 1 Posted October 6, 2007 Maybe I'm just doing a little wishful thinking with Steve Smith.. Maybe I'm not seeing the situation from an un-biased point of view. But I really believe that they will make the situation right. Hopefully I need Steve Smith to show up... I have him teamed up with Roy Williams as the baddest WR tandem in the league.. I need it to stay that way.

HenryChinaski 1 Posted October 6, 2007 The beauty of taking MBIII? If so, I'm sure you're not alone on that. Actually, I don't have MBIII on that team. That team is Tony Romo/LarryJohnson/BrandonJacobs/SteveSmith/RoyWilliams/DallasClark/Pittsburgh My RBs have stuggled big time as you can see. I was able to pickup Derrick Ward in FA, he really saved my RB position. Sammy Morris has also been a big help for my RBs. It's a very heavy RB league, so I picked LJ/Brandon Jacobs in the first 2 rounds. Steve Smith was actually still there in the third (as most were still taking RBs) and Roy Williams in the 4th. For a 12 team league - I really think this team has my best shot of winning a championship - as long as Steve Smith get's it back together. I think I have a really great chance... Hopefully it will stay together.
pee-diddy 27 Posted October 6, 2007 I could see Colston being top 5 the rest of the way, assuming N.O. gets back on track this week. N.O. has a very friendly schedule to make this happen. N.O.'s playoff FF schedule is

I need it to stay that way. Me too. I'm holding out hope as Steve Smith has had games in past years where he did nothing, it's sort of happens to every wide receiver in the nfl. This thread is a disguised, should I trade Steve Smith in a package deal (or straight up if I can get away with it) for T.O.
