Renaming your team when it sucks

Yes, my team sucks donkey balls this season. Used to be Infidels in honor of our troops. Now it is............

A couple of years ago, we had a team rename itself "League Bit#h" after an 0-5 start. Of course they snuck into the playoffs and ended up winning.

I did exactly that last year with one team.

 

I renamed it "the spoilers" because I wasn't giving up. I had 3 huge injuries early, went 0-3 against my division and sunk within the 1st month. Terrible stroke of misfortune.

 

So even knowing I was screwed and had no chance at the playoffs, I renamed the team, spent the $ to play the wire, and then when I got healthy I started blowing up opponents.

 

I knocked 3 teams out of the playoffs - it was almost, but not as fun as actually winning anything. I hate people who quit. I had to give a pep talk to a 1-4 team in my IDP league. He was talking about quitting, not spending any more money - with a IDP you have to spend to field a team week to week just with BYEs. So I convinced him it was for the good of the league to not just give up because it hands other teams a win.

 

gah - like I'm his dad telling him to win one for the gipper.

 

Anyway, yeah - I've renamed teams. Gotta keep your head in the game. You started it, might as well finish it and have fun.

I renamed my team to 'Guppy, Inc' after a 1-2 start.

I highly recommend it. Last year I started out 5-0 and my confidence soared. I then lost my next 5 games. I changed my name to This Team Blows and subsequently ran the tabe to win the championship. I am now 1-4 and have to delve into the think tank for another gem.

Had another guy rename his team "chicken bones" a few years ago. Kind of a cross between worthless garbage and "Waiting for Gadot" reference. God, that has to be the stupidest play ever written. Garbage + stupid = chicken bones.

After numerous weeks of watching some scrub just happen to go off the week i played him....i renamed my team:

 

Our Lady Of Miracles

 

 

Because i was granting miracle performances to dogsh!t players. Even had my logo as the lady of miracles...its a great image.

 

So even now when i go on a bender.....ill pist a message to the league saying Our Lady is back!!

A few years back a guy in my league who was a big Dolfins fan had a team named Run Ricky. When Ricky got suspended he changed his team name to:

A few years ago, a guy renamed his team PrisonSoapDroppers, because he kept facing the highest scoring team (or close to it) in the league each week. Didn't help him too much, though--I think he was 2nd or 3rd in overall points scored for the season, but finished well out of any chance for the playoffs.

I think you may just have been caught with your hand in the cookie jar, Marksy68--if you adopted that name for your team, as opposed to coming up with it on your own (your post implies you came up with it, or at a minimum doesn't attribute the source from which you obtained it--can we all say "link"??), you might want to "fess up" if you want to preserve any credibility? Just a thought.

Started 0-2. Changed my name of the last 4 years from "The Tail-Gaters" to "Ed Hochuli's Mighty Forearms" (with a sweet pic of Hercules on a holding call). Since then, the Mighty Forearms have "held" opponents to a combined 150pts over three weeks!! (Having the Bills fan in our league score 19 points last week helped....no one's heard from him lately, btw....)

My screen name for most everything and team name for the last few years was "MissMahoney" (derived from a 5 year old cousin at the time singing "Me So Horny" by 2 Live Crew incorrectly). I named my Fantasy Squad-Marvin's Hairy Son-this year, of course having Marvin on my squad. My team blew donkey ball's as well and the game right after I changed it back to MissMahoney was when McNabb and Curtis went off against the Lions this year.

Our league has a long history of team owners renaming teams when they underperform.

 

One owner, a Packers fan, had a team named Lambo's Slammers that was terrible. So he renamed it the Blind Girl Scouts. He's kept that name for years now, even though his teams usually do pretty well.

 

Another owner got so upset at his underperforming players that he changed the name to the Punishment Committee. Team logo is a cat in S&M garb wielding a whip.

My team names in all my leagues for many years has been Flaming Moes. In one league where I decided to go into rebuliding mode this season I renamed it Up In Flames Moe and used a shot from the Flaming Moe episode where Moe is behind flaming drinks as a logo.

I've changed my name twice, mainly because the other league team owners are boring.

 

First name was "The Autumn Wind". I'm a huge Raider fan so only the Nation would understand.

 

Second was HellDate Midgets... cuz midgets are funny and I love the BET show.

 

Now it's Samurai SlapYoMamas... cuz uh... i don't know... first one that popped in my head that made me giggle. But it does remind me of Friday After Next when they said something you tasted at their restaurant would make you want to SLAP YO MAMA!!!... *SMACK!*... but Samurai style. Kinda like Batman and Robin but I ain't wearin' no tights. ("Heroes" reference)

 

I don't know what next week's will be but i'm taking suggestions.

Here is my history of name changes, season to season changes and in-season changes.

 

My first name ever was Shorty's Revenge. Yes, I am abit short, and yes I wanted revenge. I won that year and renamed my team Shorty's Repeat the next season. Won again, then went with Shorty's 3peat. Lost that year and went back to Shorty's revenge. It's been downhill ever since, and I have had in-season changes. Last year, after I was out of the running I changed my name the the Chicken Wing Extravaganza, because the only thing I was playing for in the second half was a free dinner against my opponent. I am still playing those bets off!

 

This year I started as Shorty's Shortbus Superheroes, and after I bought (we do an auction) Bulger, Delhomme, Gore, and Rudi Johnson I have had a less than stellar season. So as of this week, I have changed my name to Shorty's Suckaneers.

 

I am sure you could care less, but this was quite therapeutic for me, since I pretty much have to win out to get in the playoffs.
