swirvenirvin 25 Posted October 23, 2007 I normally don't give credit to people on this board when they post something I agree with, but another winning post from Savage Beast tonight. DUMB
Savage Beast 1 Posted October 23, 2007 Really? What about those of us who spend our Sundays at the games tailgating or, in the case of away games, at our friends house partying it up during the game. I am amazed at the shut-ins who are attached to their laptops because of a free-for-all waiver system. I chose to work on Sunday afternoons, so I can sit in the office and watch football on tv and on NFL.com undisturbed, away from the nagging woman who would try and cure my NFL football addiction. And technological internet gadgets are made small enough these days to bring with you to the stadium or a tailgating party. Go buy one cheapskate.
Savage Beast 1 Posted October 23, 2007 there is no comparison to you nerds saying that it is fair to just go pick up guys whenever you want. Can't blame them if their league rules allow it.
swirvenirvin 25 Posted October 23, 2007 Can't blame them if their league rules allow it. No I agree, I was in one league that had this about 4 years ago. And I did enjoy it because I had a huge advantage over most of the guys, not from Sundays always but with something like this today. It is nice, but I never thought it was a good way to run a league
Savage Beast 1 Posted October 23, 2007 It is nice, but I never thought it was a good way to run a league I agree. But even so, if you can expliot goofy league rules to win money, then it would be foolish not to do so.

I have a nice little PDA, since I am in the IT business. I could either enjoy the game that I am at, or I could sit there and look at the injury situation all day. Not to mention the fact that you don't understand what it is like to go to an NFL game (since you are flipping burgers on Sunday afternoons). You see, cells are real hard to get (particularly in Foxboro) because there are 70k people calling their bookies during the game. The reality is that a free-for-all WW is a joke. We had it in one league that I was in and I cleaned up. I work a lot of hours and I am online all the time. If there was something that happened (like the Ronnie Brown situation), I would know it first and scoop up guys. Even I voted to implement a WW to make it at least somewhat reasonable. Savage Beast 1 Posted October 23, 2007 (since you are flipping burgers on Sunday afternoons). My work is no where near as exciting as burger flipping. Sadly, I am a boring library tech, and I sit in my office and play on the computer most of the time, just like I am doing now at work.
Phurfur 70 Posted October 23, 2007 The NFL runs its WW with the worst team getting the first shot at free agent players, that is how all my leagues work. I like it because it keeps parity in the leagues. I don't like playing in leagues with a few great teams and a bunch of bad/average teams even if I have one of the great teams. Does it really matter that you have 6 starting RBs when the guy you are playing has none?
Savage Beast 1 Posted October 23, 2007 Does it really matter that you have 6 starting RBs when the guy you are playing has none? Works for me.

Does it really matter that you have 6 starting RBs when the guy you are playing has none? Well sort of. The NFL has a waiver period that goes worst to first. However, once a guy clears waivers, then it is a free for all with the exception of salary cap space. So, theoretically, a team could have a guy injured during the game and have a guy ready to be signed right away. That is why they have tryouts during the week for various players, so that their Rolodex (do people still have these) is up to date. I agree with what you are saying for FF, but the NFL rule does not really work that way.

I am amazed at the shut-ins who are attached to their laptops because of a free-for-all waiver system. That's cool. I'm a Cowboys fan living in Nebraska so doesn't work for me. I'll go to a bar with a friend if the Cowboys aren't on regular TV.
Keyser Sose 0 Posted October 23, 2007 I hate to break up this circle jerk you guys got going, but I'm going to try to stay on topic with the thread subject. I offered to trade Jesse Chatman for Boldin and got turned down. I thought it was a fair offer to a team needing a RB, but oh well.
