edjr 7,090 Posted November 6, 2007 Clay Bucholz, Jon Lester and Coco Crisp for Johan Santana. Santana is on his last year under his current contract and pretty much no chance the Twins will pay him. Thoughts?
cgod 0 Posted November 6, 2007 Clay Bucholz, Jon Lester and Coco Crisp for Johan Santana. Santana is on his last year under his current contract and pretty much no chance the Twins will pay him. Thoughts? Can we throw Julio Lugo in the mix and assure we don't have to pay any money on either his or Crisp's contract? Tough to let two promising young pitchers go but Johan is pretty good. So your roatation would be Santana, Beckett, Dice-K, Schilling and Wakefield? I'd take that. Sign A-Rod to play SS and resign Lowell? What would that payroll look like? Evil number 0 Posted November 6, 2007 I think that is a lot for Santana. You are talking about two starters who are as close to can't miss as you will find. Coco is nothing to the Red Sox. The thing is that the Red Sox should be able to get a good deal from The Twins because the Twins are the ones in the bad position of losing Santana. I would part with Lester or Bucholtz (I would hate to lose Clay though), Coco and some other prospects.

Sign A-Rod to play SS and resign Lowell? What would that payroll look like? They'd have to work a deal with Santana before they traded for him to make sure they had him long term. I'm guessing that's 20,000,000 per season for 5, 6 years? Sign Lowell for 3 years, if he wants 4, then you have no choice but too look at ARod. They might be stuck with Lugo for next year, if they sign Lowell. I would not sign Lowell and Arod. We're looking at 200,000,000 if they do that. What about Youky? He's due to get paid. at least a few million.

There are other teams out there, don't be so sure the Twins won't be looking for a lot and they should. Santana is the best starter in the majors over the last 5 years. If they acquired Santana and ARod, they might have a higher winning percentage than the Patriots.

The Red Sox would be the 70's Raiders of MLB
VikesFan 1 Posted November 19, 2007 we need hitters, not pitchers, and we would start with Ellisbury, not crisp

Looks good, except none of those guys are on the Yankees, and we all know that's where Johan will end up.

The Hood 9 Posted November 21, 2007 Uh Huh. How's Carl Pavano doin'? The usual. I hear Pavano and Matt Clement get together every couple months to count their stolen money and decide on which injury they'll suffer next.
