djrockstar 0 Posted August 29, 2009 Disclosure: I'm keeping Rodgers in the 11th. Look how he performed last year against some of the better passing defenses (passing defense NFL rank in parentheses)... (5th) DAL 290yds / 1TD / 0 INT / 80 rating (4th) TB 165yds / 2TD / 3 INT / 55.9 rating (6th) IND 186yds / 1TD / 0 INT / 104 rating (9th) TEN 314yds / 1TD / 1 INT / 76 rating Not great, but decent against top 10 passing defenses. The real trick is that they play MIN, DET and CHI twice ... who were 18th, 27th and 30th last year against the pass. Plus, they played SEA, ATL, JAX and NO who were 32nd, 24th, 23th, 21st against the pass. Last years schedule turned out to be fairly favorable for his first year at the helm. That being said, Green Bay has a decent schedule this year .... but you're right they have to play BALT and PIT weeks 13 and 15. Those will be difficult in the cold, December weather of Lambeau and Heinz fields for any QB. Just draft Brady as your backup and you should be fine.
Four More Beers 0 Posted August 29, 2009 He threw 2 TDs in each Chicago game as well as his game vs Seattle last year. Pitt in week 15 is only game to really be concerned about.
RedzoneMonster 107 Posted August 29, 2009 A. NEVER worry about the playoffs. Just get there first. B. I am VERY high on Rodgers this year. I really think he could be the #1 QB at the end of the year and would be surprised if not at least top 3.

GridIronAssassin#1 0 Posted August 29, 2009 I might have to pull the trigger on getting Rogers in the 4th round. I don't think he'll be there in the 5th.

You can actually throw on Chicago (30th last year in passing defense), and Seattle was dead last in the NFL in 2008. Rodgers performance for those games can't be taken out of context. BALT, PITT, TB, IND, DAL and perhaps CLE will give him the most trouble this year but the rest are in the bottom third of the NFL in pass defense.
Jeremy 0 Posted August 29, 2009 I might have to pull the trigger on getting Rogers in the 4th round. I don't think he'll be there in the 5th. Unless your league only has 8 teams in it, I think that's probably a good idea.

Jeremy 0 Posted August 29, 2009 Well, it's only preseason, but he did most of that without Greg Jennings, too.

9-Route 0 Posted August 29, 2009 Unless your league only has 8 teams in it, I think that's probably a good idea. hell, the way he is in complete command of that offense at a rocket fuel level, if drafting late position, he might need to be taken in the 3rd rd. this guy posted 4000/32 total TDs in yr1 of that offense [much like culpepper debut when he also did 4000/40total TDs]---the forecast right now looks like clear skies and an assault on 40+total TDs. illest 0 Posted August 29, 2009 Whats there to worry about a matchup against PIT? PIT is known for great run D, not great pass D. A matchup against PIT almost assures a good game from Rodgers because the air is the only way their going to move the ball.

Steelers were the #1 ranked pass defense last year giving up the fewest passing yards per game in the NFL (156) ... 6th in interceptions (20) ... and 2nd in defending passing TD's (they only gave up 12 passing TD's all year). NFL Defenses who cares?? rodgers is playing lights out right now, at a level comparable/ahead of manning's mid-season 2008 form as he got over the injury and hit his stride. that level torched the steelers defense for 240/3/0 [and schooled overrated polamalu with a soft hb lob for a game-winning TD]. [clue: steelers have always had high ranked pass defenses due to pressure, not coverages; their long ball defense is not great, as evidenced by their scorchings over the yrs when offenses bombed them [colts, pats, chargers]. njacinto 4 Posted August 29, 2009 We will see in week 3, when Pittsbourgh visits Cincinnati... I'm curious to see what a healthy Palmer and Ochocinco can do against the Steelers... roroco 75 Posted August 29, 2009 Really wish I was the only one in my league that got to see this performance before out draft tomorrow. I just has the first pick in my main 10 man snake. I was targeting him at 4.10 or 5.1 (3.1 was just too early for me for a QB). I was thinking he would be there for sure... Yeah... he went 4.1. I guess the secret was out because of his performance this weekend. Another reason to hate preseason.
steel827 2 Posted August 30, 2009 I was locked on him for the 4th round in a 10 team league (picking 6th). Very happy I got him. I've never been concerned with the playoff schedule as I am preparing for the draft. So many variables. One main factor is that a good defense on draft day may not result in being a good defense in week 14 and opposite effect with a bad defense. I start looking at playoffs around week 10. Most things have shaken out and I can start to move players accordingly.

I think you're dancing around the issue. The issue is that "Pittsburgh is not known as a passing defense and can be thrown on". Not only is that idea ill informed, it's just wrong. Pitt had the best passing defense rating last year, giving up the fewest passing yards and the second fewest passing touchdowns. I've illuminated the gentlemen on the statistics but feel free to argue against the indisputable facts. Now, can Rodgers play well against Pitt at Heinz field in the cold? As an owner, I sure hope so. Can he replicate Peyton Manning's three touchdowns against Pitt last year? I'm praying for it. But to expect it, or to assume that it's a cake walk because Aaron Rodgers is now the new Peyton Manning, well ... let's just say, I admire your optimism. Again, I'm keeping Rodgers this year after drafting him in the 13th. I think he's going to put up another great year. I'm just realistic.
