Big hit for patriots, RB Shane Vereen broke a small bone in his wrist on 1st play yesterday, scheduled for surgery today. Out few weeks

I just heard this rumor but couldn't find a credible site to link it too.

I guess that answers his durability issues.

how does that answer his durability issues?

he broke it on the 1st play, and played entire game, thats durability, breaks are freak accidents

And now he's set to miss a few weeks.

:dunno:

Shane Vereen seems to be injured a lot.

Danny Amendola seems to be injured a lot.

in the end, you're either a guy who gets on the field, or you're not - we can rationalize it all we want, but either you play or you don't.

Ridley has a history of fumbling with NE.

He fumbled already in pre-seaon. He has fumbled in the past, once or twice in very critical situations (playoffs).

Fumbling is a big problem with Ridley, this isn't a one-time mistake.

i do get that. but if you're willing to roll with him knowing he has a history of fumbles, i don't understand the reasoning behind taking him out of a game for 3 quarters after a fumble. he's no more likely to fumble again in those ensuing 3 quarters than he is for the rest of the season, and he's presumably going to play for the rest of the season.

it almost seems like it's more of an attempt to punish/embarrass the player than anything else to me, in spite of the fact that it probably has a better chance of hurting the team than helping it. vereen was great in this game so it didn't end up hurting them. but what about the giants? i think they would have had a better chance of pulling out a victory with david wilson in there for the whole game, but that's just my opinion.

(these are all biased rantings of a ridley owner, so take it with a grain of salt)

maybe - it's the football approach that most coaches won't tolerate fumbling and use a "negative" reinforcement approach.

I can't get into the sports psychology of it all and I have no idea if this "teaching method" works... but it is what they do.

A RB who fumbles won't see the field - this is as sure a bet as there is.

Kept Ridley from last year and will most likely lose this week because of his benching. Looks like the Vereen injury will keep Ridley on the field for at least a month though.

He should have some extra motivation to run like a beast now. As long as he holds onto the ball while Vereen is out, he should be fine.

But he can't seem to hold onto the ball.

it just seems stupid to me. a guy fumbles once, and you pull him for 3 quarters? do you know how much of a factor luck plays in fumbles? if you don't trust him to not fumble in those 3 ensuing quarters, are you going to suddenly trust him for the next 15 games? just shouldn't be in this mess, sucks.

it seems stupid to me too. especially since he tripped over the field-turf and the air caused the ball to come out. what are the odds of that happening 2x.
