ESPN Fantasy League Settings and Cobbs recovery for TD

Recommended Posts

Law, just for you I will rewrite this. (actually twice I accidentally moved off the page and lost the first rewrite (draft mode please)).

btw, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3y0CD2CoCs

After Thursday Nights game, I have an owner wondering why they didn't get the 6pts from Cobb Recovering a Fumble.

Apparently, Cobb as the person recovering the ball and scoring the TD isn't considered offensive rusher/receiver. Thus the stat isn't scored as an offensive TD, but rather as a Recovered Fumble TD as if it were a defensive play. https://answers.yaho...16214049AA2bpAL

Not only did this play occur on Thursday, at brink of playoffs with playoff implications at stake. But in googling to find out if this ha occured before, I found a simlar play had occurred week 5 involving Julio Jones (Falcons vs Redskins).

That affected Owner, did not raise the matter at the time. They lost by 0.9 points.

So we are at week 13. Modifing the scoring settings will impact at least one game played, potentially another game in progress.

Question:

1. What to do?

>A. Nothing, Is week 13 and season is underway.

>B. Change the setting now, and apply against all games played to date

2. For, ESPN League Managers, what setting should be set.

> Fumble Recovered for TD

> Interception Return for TD

> Fumble Return TD (does this concern PR/KR? IDK)

> Blocked Punt / FG for TD

> 2pt Return

> 1pt Safety

3. For other leagues, how do you address this? (Like Yahoo or MFL)

ESPN has various settings (enough to customize, but not complete enough).

Settings involving Recovered Fumble TD are categorized under a category of Miscellaneous (see list above) without any description or documentation as to what these settings are or do, etc. ( I need a puke emoticon here).

This will be the last season we will be using ESPN.

Law, if this isn't grammatically correct enough.

Reeliy hart too respand wid da gramir. Canned u tack a litlle time to edded?

There is a setting in ESPN, like most if not all, formats to award points for fumble recoveries. In ESPN settings, it is under Miscellaneous. Fumble Recovered for TD (FTD). We have it set for 6. Any player who recovers a fumble for a TD is awarded 6 points. Simple enough. Pretty basic stuff.

That said, as for what should be done? Nothing. It's week 13. You can't change settings now. Or shouldn't. The settings at the draft are the settings ALL season. You want to address it? Next year. NOT this year.

And the Fumble Return TD (FRTD) pertains to just that, a fumble that is returned for a TD. Not a real issue in non-IDP leagues, but it could happen. Say Calvin Johnson was on the field for that hail mary, Aaron Rodgers fumbles the ball, a Lion recovers, and hands it off to Calvin who then returns it for a TD. (I think)

Disturbingly. Paul Charchian is stating to change this at this point and do so retroactively into the season.

61 minute into Fantasy Football Weekly podcast.

I do not agree with him on this.

My three different leagues:

MFL: didn't credit Cobb. I cannot figure out for the life of me how to change it. I presume I'll have to dig deep into the DOS programming (blech) which is the antiquated MFL site in order to affect change.

ESPN: was set to credit recovery of fumble in endzone as TD for player recovering.

NFL: had to be manually overrided.

Intuition demands that an offensive player on the field should be credited with a zero yard rushing TD.

Add Number of Offensive Fumble Recovery TDs for 6 pts.

You even have a Fumbles category in the dropdown to find it quickly.

Pretty simple.

Question for you ESPN commishes.

I understand that I can set the Fumble recovery TD setting...

But could have Cobb advanced the ball?

Meaning could he have scored yardage.

If so, is there a setting to credit yards after a recovery in ESPN.

I only ask as ESPN documentation so poor.

Yeah, I saw that 'rule' listed this morning. MFL needs to spend some money on their website.
