That’s the point. They were viewed as property and tools. Not people. It wasn’t  their skin color that equates to that.  It was the fact they were a conquered and enslaved group

The plantation owners tried to use white indentured servants at first.  But because the work was done in the hot Sun, they couldn’t do it for very long. So they went to plan B.
