Tell me a story about something unique you did during your career.

When the war in Iraq was coming to an end. I was the system manager for the MRAP Caiman weapon system. A request came through from the historical monument team that Ft. Hood was requesting the last vehicle out of Iraq which was a Caiman Plus MRAP as a historical monument.

I asked the Program Manager if it was okay if I sent the vehicle to be used as a monument. He denied my request because all those vehicles were scheduled for a now-defunct upgrade. I then took my request to the Pentagon who said unless I can find a replacement then no I can't have it. Finding a replacement was impossible, but what I did do was meet with the engineers and I asked them if we could use a similar vehicle and they said during the meeting that it would take substantial additional work and cost, but a Caiman Base could be used. I ended the meeting and sent a follow-up email to the engineer saying just for clarification a Caiman Base could be used for the upgrade program? He responded with Yes. Which was all I needed. I sent that email to my rep at the Pentagon and received the okay to send the vehicle to Ft. Hood.

So if you ever get to the Ft. Hood historical museum and see the last vehicle out of Iraq. That vehicle is there because of one geek's willingness to bend the truth and go around the chain of command.

I received a very strong talking to from the Colonel program manager, where I was reminded about the chain of command and how... blah blah blah, but it was worth it.

I had one case, one, that actually had a novel legal issue that might actually have gotten published. But then it got settled out of court. I was so p!ssed at my client.

Basically, some relative long ago had some coca cola stock. This was back in the 30s or so. He left x shares to relative A, and the remainder to relative B. Somehow the stock got lost or whatever and seventy five years go by. When it's found, the stock had split dozens of times, so there were many more shares.

Descendant of party A argued that he should receive the splits from X shares.

Descendants of party B argued part A should only get the X spelled out in the will, and he should get the rest.

Even the judge was annoyed. He wanted to rule on that one. That's the only formal brief I ever wrote as a lawyer.
