Found out that deer hunting with dogs is common in some areas.  I did not know that.

Yup, fairly common thing. I'm not a hunter so I don't really know the terminology but of course you can use those tree stand things and just sit and wait but I always assumed that was best when looking out over a field. If you're hunting in a densely wooded area, the dogs track and point and I believe chase when they run after being shot.... maybe its a northeast thing.
