Girl, 16, arrested after she ‘harassed’ and assaulted Asian family on NYC subway

....A teenager was arrested Tuesday on assault charges after allegedly verbally harassing an Asian family on the subway and then assaulting another passenger.... A video of the incident shows the teenager attacking both 51-year-old Susan Young, a Nevada mom sitting with her 11-year-old twins, as well as Joanna Lin, who filmed the encounter.....The teen was charged with two counts of assault Tuesday, and although police were reportedly considering hate crime charges...

....“One of the girls stood up and went to Joanna and just punched her. I mean, punch, punch, punch, like repeatedly. I saw at least three, maybe two or three,” Ms Young told The Post, prompting her to stand up from her seat. That’s when another girl approached the Nevada mom, and because she was screaming at her, Ms Young pushed the girl away to try to get to Ms Lin. Then, the 16-year-old turned her attention to the mom, Ms Young explained to the outlet. “Well, as soon as I made contact and pushed her shoulders away, they all came after me. I backed up, but the girl in the white t-shirt came slugging at me… She grabbed my hair, I grabbed her hair, and I basically just grabbed onto her hair to shield my face because she was swinging....”

....From there, however, things allegedly escalated. The video shows one of the women who had allegedly been hurling abuse at the Asian family run towards the camera, at which point it cuts out. In one of the captions for the video, Ms Lin wrote that “This ferocious one runs over to hit me. I put down my phone to cover my head and took the blow.”...According to an NYPD tweet, which identified the victim in the case only as a 51-year-old woman, the assailant “made an anti-ethnic remark, pulled her by the hair & punched her.” The victim has since identified herself as Sue Young — a 51-year-old from Reno, Nevada who was visting New York on vacation with her family....Video of the attack, which quickly went viral, sparked outrage in New York. The attack comes more than three years after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic led to a spike in anti-Asian hate crimes in the city and around the country that left some AAPI community members fearful for their safety in public....

Small-town Kansas paper was probing ‘Gestapo’ police chief over sex claims before he raided it

......The police chief whose “Gestapo”-style raid on a small town newspaper has become the focus of national outrage was being investigated by its reporters over claims of alleged sexual misconduct. Gideon Cody and every officer in the Marion Police Department stormed into the Marion County Record’s offices Friday with a search warrant where they seized computers and servers. They also raided the home of the editor and publisher, Eric Meyer, and his 98-year-old mother Joan Meyer, the paper’s co-owner. She died the following day of “shock and grief,” Meyer said, stressed and unable to sleep when police seized her computer and smart speaker, as well as her son’s cellphone and even his router. He had answered the door thinking it was her Meals on Wheels delivery....

.....The Marion County Record, published weekly, has served the rural communities of Marion County (pop. 11,712) since 1869, and until now had never been at the center of a national battle over freedom of the press. But as First Amendment advocates spoke out against the raid, it emerged the newspaper had been investigating Cody, 54, after receiving an “outpouring of calls” claiming he had retired from his last police post to avoid demotion over sexual misconduct allegations. Cody joined the Marion County Police Department in late April after retiring as a captain in Kansas City, Mo., where he worked for 24 years. Eric Meyer told The Handbasket substack his outlet had been contacted by Cody’s former colleagues about the claims of sexual misconduct, but that the six-plus anonymous sources ultimately never went on the record and reporters couldn’t obtain Cody’s personnel file.....

.....A search warrant for the raid says it was issued over an allegation of “identity theft” by its reporters. The claim was made by local restaurateur Kari Newell, after someone sent the paper and a member of the local council documents which showed she had a DUI, which would make it illegal for her to have a liquor license. Newell also threw The Marion County Record’s reporters out of a public meeting held by a local congressman — which was attended by the police chief — and used a city council meeting to accuse the paper of illegally obtaining her DUI records, while admitting that she had a drunken driving record. The paper never published her DUI details and Meyer denied acting illegally, claiming he believed they had been sent to the paper’s reporter, Deb Gruver, because of legal sparring between Newell, 46, and her ex-husband. "We didn’t publish it because we couldn’t nail it down to the point that we thought it was ready for publication,” Meyer told The Kansas City Star. “[Cody] didn’t know who our sources were. He does now.....”

Andy Ngo scores legal win over Portland Antifa as judge awards $300K in damages

.....An Oregon judge ruled in favor of conservative journalist Andy Ngo’s claims that he was brutally assaulted by members of Rose City Antifa during a June 2019 protest in downtown Portland. Multnomah County Circuit Judge Chanpone Sinlapasai directed three defendants to individually compensate Ngo with $100,000, culminating in a total of $300,000 in damages, announced Monday. The Aug. 8 ruling is some "vindication" for Ngo, as a Portland jury found two other defendants listed in the same civil suit not liable for the assault...."Most people cannot understand how isolating, invasive and disturbing it can be to actually face down people you allege have hurt you, and then to subject yourself to essentially inquisition by their defense, and their gaslighting might make you even question your own sense of your injuries, your own reality," he said.....

....The Blendon Township police officer who fatally shot Ta’Kiya Young said multiple times “She was going to run me over” in the moments that followed, according to new body-camera footage that was released Friday....Police released longer video of the incident from each of the two officers who confronted Young on Aug. 24 at the Kroger on Sunbury Road. Chief John Belford said the longer versions were released just now because of the extra time it took to redact them. Also released were two videos that showed security footage from inside the Kroger and its parking lot....

....In the new footage, Young was shown going into the liquor section of the Kroger with a handheld shopping basket and a shoulder bag that had a second bag inside of it. She placed bottles into the basket and later transferred them to the shoulder bags. She went to the liquor-section register with some bottles in the basket, but after waiting in line for about a minute, she walked out carrying the basket with two other women who were with her, setting off an alarm....As seen in the footage released Sept. 1, one officer went to Young’s driver’s-side window and ordered her out of the car multiple times as the second officer stepped in front of the car and pulled out his handgun. Young began to pull her car forward, lifting the officer in front off the ground. He fired one shot through the windshield, striking Young, and the car rolled about 50 feet before hitting the store wall....

....Two Las Vegas teens accused of fatally running over a retired police chief laughed at each other, smiled, and seemingly flipped off their victim’s family during a court hearing earlier this week.....Jesus Ayala, 18, and Jzamir Keys, 16, were back in court on Tuesday more than two months after they allegedly recorded themselves intentionally plowing into Andreas Probst, a 64-year-old retired police chief, who was out on a morning bike ride.

The teens’ antics began when they sat down for the hearing in Clark County court, covering the right side of their faces to hide themselves from the cameras before appearing to cover their mouths to suppress their laughter....The teens, who were both minors when Probst was killed, were charged with murder and are being tried as adults....Probst’s family slammed the teens’ appalling actions, saying they “really had no remorse.”....“How can you sit there after taking a man’s life, and act like such an entitled p—k?” Taylor Probst, Andreas’ 27-year-old daughter, told reporters outside the courthouse. “They really had no remorse, that this is just a game to them.”

The public defender also said he is concerned about finding fair jurors for the case because of the viral media attention, which angered Probst’s widow......“It was your people who put it in the media first, your clients are the ones that put that on social media,” Crystal Probst said, referring to the in-car view of the horrific August killing.....“They were just trying to mad-dog us and intimidate us, which didn’t work,” Taylor Probst added.

Gardner is married to Abrams sister Leslie Abrams Gardner, a judge on the bench of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia since 2014 when she was appointed by then President Barack Obama. Tampa Police say they arrested the 57-year-old Gardner Friday 'for allegedly attempting to engage in sexual acts with a 16-year-old girl' .... 

This isn't Gardner's first run-in with the law on these types of matters; in 2016.....a rape conviction that had seen him imprisoned for the previous 27 years. Two years after his exoneration Gardner married Judge Abrams and began a career as a 'motivational speaker and emotional intelligence trainer for students and people who were formerly incarcerated'.
