In which case, gun bans are a non-starter for any serious discussion on violence prevention. You can cause as much death and destruction with a Street Sweeper as you can with an AR. So you want to ban both? Next up, the mini 14. Want to ban them too? How about the .30 carbine?

Once that camel's nose is under the tent there's no going back and it would have detrimental effects on future generations and their freedoms in this country.

We can disagree on the reasons, and still agree a gun ban isn't going to happen and isn't even a good starting point.

I absolutely believe I can walk into a classroom with a drum fed, semi-auto, 12 Gauge shotgun and slaughter as many children as you could with an AR in the same amount of time.

That makes 10x more sense.   I can't tell you the number of times I've heard the "you can just use X" defense in these conversations. 

Correct, a ban on a specific gun will do little because there are 100s of different guns and mods.  A full gun ban won't work here for many reasons, and personally I think people should be allowed guns as home defense, so there's that.   You won't catch me arguing for wanting a gun ban.

I think when the masses don't see the people being addressed they are more likely to look to the guns as well.  All politicians point to mental illness for our troubles, but yet it never seems to be high on anybody's agenda.  Not enough profit and lobbyists, I guess.
