Colorado's action is 'first step toward eliminating' gas-powered lawn equipment emissions altogether

In an 8-0 vote, the Colorado Air Quality Control Commission (AQCC) green-lit regulations that prohibit gas-powered lawn and garden equipment from being used on public property statewide. Under the finalized rules, the ban will be enforced beginning in 2025 and, according to the Colorado Public Interest Research Group (CoPIRG), represents the first effort of its kind in the nation.

"Given the significant pollution generated by gas-powered lawn equipment and the severe air pollution problem in our region, I’m glad the state is taking action to accelerate the switch to cleaner, quieter electric lawn equipment," said Kirsten Schatz, the clean air advocate at CoPIRG, which pushed for the measure. "This vote is the first step toward eliminating this unnecessary source of harmful air pollution."

"It doesn’t make sense to allow air pollution that damages our health when we cut grass or blow leaves – especially when cleaner, quieter electric options are readily available," Schatz continued. "Soon, Coloradans won’t have to worry about fumes or obnoxious noise from gas-powered lawn mowers and leaf blowers when they head to public parks."

Alright, so what are you going to tell your Parks and Recs departments to do now, Colorado?

The same article in the OP goes on to say they will use electric/battery powered tools.

OK fair enough.

Come 2025, we'll see if the electric counterparts work as well as the gasoline power equipment in Colorado. I hope so, and I hope they know enough to make an exception for cold weather snow removal equipment.

Electric is not better. That's why they use gas.

Colorado is willing to test this theory out in 2025. Everyone can sit back. Come 2026, we can all learn a lesson from them. 🍿

Yep. And how does Colorado produce electricity? And when at the homes and businesses, how are the landscaping companies going to recharge their electric devices to be able to complete a job? It should be fun to watch.  :)

I learned something just five weeks ago. https://electrek.co/2024/01/16/dead-tesla-cars-pile-up-chicago-superchargers-extreme-cold/

I think electric snow plows would be a particularly bad idea.

I may have actually posted that one here.

It's amazing they want to promote technologies that are massively flawed and bad for what they are actually pushing.

I would actually respect the climate nuts if they pushed living Amish style lives. THAT I could get behind.

Gas furnaces are next. In the process of replacing our hvac system and they’ve eliminated all incentives for high efficiency gas systems. All 3 contractors told me they are going to start mandating electric heat pumps and geothermal in all new Massachusetts builds.

Dang...They are doing what all liberal states are doing. Forcing their residents to move out of their state.
